Sanag B6S PRO Headphone Reviews: Great ANC and Battery Life, Attractive Price

Today, I have the Sanag B6S PRO headphones for review. This is a full-size Bluetooth headset from the relatively unknown Chinese brand Sanag. Previously, we’ve talked about the Z77 PRO, T50 PRO, and S5 PRO models. Today, I want to introduce you to the B6S PRO. What’s interesting about this model? It offers decent sound quality, good active noise cancellation, significant autonomy, and an attractive price. Honestly, when I took these headphones for review, I didn’t expect anything special from them. But after getting acquainted with the device, it pleasantly surprised me. What exactly – I’ll tell you in the review, which we’ll start with a brief overview of the technical specifications.

Positioning and price

Most of the Sanag brand’s products are positioned as audio devices in the budget segment. Decent technical specifications, quality assembly, and affordable prices are typical. Indeed, the Sanag B6S PRO model is no exception – it still falls into the budget device segment.

Finding the B6S PRO for sale turned out to be not so simple. This model is not available in our Ukrainian stores, marketplaces, or catalogs. Therefore, you can purchase the headphones either in the official Sanag store or on AliExpress. There are some uncertainties regarding the prices of the headphones. For example, on the official Sanag website, the regular price for this model is $189.99. However, we immediately see a discount to $89.99. I’ll note that $190 seems a bit too much for them, but the price of $90 is closer to reality.

On AliExpress, from the official seller, I found two offers for this model. However, the PRO prefix is missing from the name. But by all indications, these are the same headphones because the manufacturer doesn’t produce any other B6S models. One was priced at $142.80, while the other was $99.86 with an immediate discount to $69.90. The prices are different, but from the limited description and photos, it’s evident that these are the same headphones.

Out of curiosity, I also checked the price dynamics using the Alitools browser extension. It didn’t show any information about the headphones priced at $142.80, no information at all. However, there is some information about the headphones priced at $69.90. As we can see, the headphones appeared on sale not so long ago (January 21, 2024), and the price has remained unchanged ($69.91).

From all of this, we can conclude that the current price for the Sanag B6S PRO is $70-90. And I must say that this is a top-tier device for this money.

Package contents

The headphones come in a branded cardboard box with a rather minimalist design. On the front side, the inscriptions “50+ HOURS OF WIRELESS MUSIC TIME” and “ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLING” immediately catch the eye. The first indicates decent autonomy, while the second denotes the presence of active noise cancellation. On the back, there are brief technical specifications written in both Chinese and English.

The headphones are neatly packed in the branded case inside the box. The case itself is excellent: it has a sturdy frame, soft covering, and is well-made. By the way, not only do the native headphones fit easily into it, but also my old Sony WH-XB900N. I’m confident that most full-size headphones will fit into it without any problems as well.

In the package:

  • headphones
  • case
  • 3.5 mm cable
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • user manual
  • warranty card

The instruction manual is provided in three languages straight away: Chinese, English, and Japanese. The manual itself is quite detailed.

Overall, we have an excellent set of accessories. Just having one good case already deserves a big plus. By the way, the package with my Sony WH-XB900N only included a small soft pouch for the headphones, whereas here we have a whole case. Cool!

Design, ergonomics, build quality

Externally, the Sanag B6S PRO look like regular full-size headphones. The model is only available in black color.

The headband is made of plastic. The plastic itself looks quite high-quality. The base of the headband is made of metal. The bottom of the headband is soft, with eco-leather covering. The adjustment range is not very large, but I think it will be sufficient for everyone to adjust the headphones to their liking. The adjustment is very smooth. The notches are felt weakly during extension. If you grasp the top of the headband and gently push with your hand, they will extend to the maximum. On one hand, this could be considered a downside. But on the other hand, I’ll say that it doesn’t affect ergonomics in any way. The headphones fit well on the head, hold securely, and even during active movements, the headband maintains the selected size.

The headphone cups are also made of plastic. Both have the Sanag logo. They rotate 90 degrees, and if necessary, they can be neatly folded inside. The ear cushions are made of eco-leather – very soft and pleasant to the touch.

On the left headphone cup, there is a Type-C charging port and an ANC button. This button allows you to switch between the headphone modes: active noise cancellation, ambient sound, and off. With active noise cancellation, the headphones will block out external sounds, ideal for when you want to only hear the sound from the headphones without any external noise. In ambient sound mode, you will hear both the music and what’s happening around you, making it suitable for outdoor use. The modes are toggled with a single short press, accompanied by English voice notifications. Slightly below the ANC button, there is a small indicator that lights up green in noise cancellation and ambient sound modes. This indicator also notifies about battery charging or depletion. When the battery is low, the indicator will flash red. During charging, the red light will be constant. And when the device is fully charged, the indicator will change to blue.

On the right headphone cup, there is a power button and volume control buttons. While playing music, these buttons can also be used to switch tracks and pause playback. Pressing and holding the power button toggles the headphones on and off. A single short press of this button pauses playback. The volume is adjusted with short single presses of the respective buttons. Pressing and holding (for about 1 second) switches tracks.

Also, on the right headphone cup, there is an indicator light and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired connection. During active Bluetooth connection, the indicator will flash blue. In case of waiting for connection, connection loss, or disconnection of the headphones from the device, this indicator will flash red-blue.

The build quality of the Sanag B6S PRO is excellent. All components are well-fitted, and the construction feels sturdy. The fit is comfortable: the headphones sit well on the head, and the ear cushions fully cover the ears. One of the advantages is that the headphones do not wobble and provide good pressure. At the same time, they do not squeeze the head or earlobes even during prolonged wear.

During my testing of the Sanag B6S PRO, I not only listened to music with them but also used them as gaming headphones. The maximum time I spent wearing them continuously was around 5-6 hours, and I didn’t feel any pressure or discomfort. Of course, after such a long time, my ears started to sweat a little, but this is a typical occurrence with all full-size headphones. If the ear cushions were made of fabric, the ears wouldn’t sweat as much. However, that would negatively impact the noise isolation. For me personally, good noise isolation is more important.

Connections, features and sound

The Sanag B6S PRO can be connected both wirelessly and wired. Wireless connection is established using Bluetooth 5.3, while wired connection is achieved through the standard AUX port using the included 3.5mm cable. Supported Bluetooth protocols include A2DP, AVRCP, HSP, and HFP. Supported codecs include SBC and AAC.

In Bluetooth mode, you can access different modes (ANC, ambient sound) and media controls using the buttons on the right ear cup. In wired mode, the headphones function just like regular headphones.

During testing with Bluetooth connections, I encountered no issues. I connected the Sanag B6S PRO to a PC and two smartphones (Android, iOS). The headphones quickly paired with the devices without any problems. There were no connection drops, even at a considerable distance from the source. It’s worth noting that the claimed Bluetooth range of the headphones is 10 meters. I tested the headphones in an apartment with an area of approximately 55 square meters, and the signal remained stable even when the source (smartphone, PC) was in another room with closed doors.

Now, a few words about sound quality and noise cancellation. Let’s start with noise cancellation—it works excellently. Even if you just put on the headphones and activate the noise cancellation, external sounds are suppressed by approximately 90-95%. For example, my windows face a busy street, resulting in constant noise in the apartment. With ANC activated, this noise is almost completely muted. Another example: while playing games on my PC, I could hardly hear the sound of the CPU cooler, which runs quite loudly under load. And this is just by putting on the headphones and turning on the noise cancellation (with no audio playing through the headphones at the time).

During music playback, movie watching, or simply gaming with active noise cancellation, external sounds are completely inaudible. In short, the noise cancellation in the Sanag B6S PRO is excellent. However, there is one peculiarity with the noise cancellation: when activated, the overall playback volume is slightly reduced, and the low frequencies (bass) are attenuated. This peculiarity is not present in ambient sound mode. Does this detract from the content and the listening experience? Not particularly.

As for the sound quality, it’s quite decent. Advanced audiophiles might not find this level satisfactory, but for regular users without inflated expectations or demands, it’s more than adequate. The Sanag B6S PRO can boast good deep bass. The headphones themselves are quite loud. At near maximum volume levels, in tracks with pronounced bass, you can feel the speakers vibrating. It’s certainly an unusual experience. However, it’s unlikely to be beneficial for your health. Therefore, I don’t recommend listening to the B6S PRO at maximum volume.

Now, a few words about the microphone, as the Sanag B6S PRO is not just headphones but a headset. The quality of the built-in microphone is quite good. During phone calls through the headset microphone, I was clearly and crisply heard. The voice was quite clean, without any interference or distortion. Incoming calls can be answered directly from the headset by a short press of the power button on the right earcup. However, to end the call, you’ll need to take out your phone since the same button doesn’t disconnect the call. The conclusion is that you can easily communicate through the headphones or use them as a gaming headset for conversations with teammates.

Sanag has a proprietary app for its devices that is available only for iOS.

However, there is no support for the B6S PRO model in it. The headphones connect seamlessly to the iPhone, but they do not appear in the app. When trying to add the device manually, we see that our model is not listed. Are the headphones so new that their support has not yet been added to the app? Perhaps this will be corrected in the future.

Another small inconvenience is related to the display of the remaining battery charge. It can only be seen in the list of connected Bluetooth devices on Android and PC. On iOS devices, the percentage of remaining charge is not shown. But most importantly, you cannot find out the charge level without going into the settings. For example, on my Sony WH-XB900N headphones, a single short press of the power button triggers voice notifications like “battery level is about 70%” or “headphones fully charged”. Also, in case of low battery (when it reaches 20%), the headphones themselves will say: “low battery level, please recharge the headphones”. There is nothing similar in the Sanag B6S PRO. And I wouldn’t nitpick if there were no voice notifications at all. But when switching between “ANC – ambient sound” modes, they are present. So why not add some battery charge notifications?

Battery life

Sanag B6S PRO comes with a 1000 mAh battery. The headphones are charged via a standard USB connection. The approximate full charging time is around 2 hours. The headphones boast impressive battery life. The manufacturer claims the following battery life:

  • Music playback via Bluetooth without ANC: 52 hours
  • Music playback via Bluetooth with ANC: 35 hours

From my own experience, I can say that the battery life of the Sanag B6S PRO is very close to the claimed one. I tested the headphones for a week (in ANC and ambient sound modes, approximately 50/50) and counted about 46 hours of operation. At the same time, the remaining battery percentage shows 50%. Yes, the display of the headset’s battery in the list of Bluetooth devices may not be entirely accurate. But the fact is that the headset lasted for 46 hours without fully draining. From this, I can conclude that the battery life of the headphones is very good.

Conclusions

Summing up, I can say that the Sanag B6S PRO is an excellent pair of headphones for its price segment. Good sound quality, effective noise cancellation, impressive battery life, and a pleasant price point. The solid build quality is also a plus. And I must praise the inclusion of the quality carrying case. For a modest or limited budget, this model is a real must-have. Personally, I didn’t notice any significant downsides. Among the minor ones, I can only mention a slight decrease in volume and bass reduction in ANC mode, lack of support in the proprietary app, and absence of voice notifications for battery level. Verdict: a great headset, highly recommended.
