Kieslect L11 review: Women’s smartwatches

-

Kieslect is a fairly young brand from Shanghai (the company was founded in December 2018), which specializes in various appliances and gadgets. Today we will talk about the Kieslect L11 – a smartwatch created specifically for women. In addition, the watch has modern functionality and  quite an affordable price tag.

What’s in the box

Kieslect L11

The Kieslect L11 comes in a compact white cardboard box with an image of a smartwatch, the brand name and model, as well as key characteristics, technical info and a QR code for installing the app and downloading a manual. Inside it is the device itself, a charging cable with a special cradle on one side and a USB output on the other, as well as an English-language manual.

What does it do?

Kieslect L11

The functionality of the Kieslect L11 is essentially the same as that of most wearable gadgets on the market. It can:

  • count the number of steps, distance traveled and track overall activity
  • calculate calorie consumption
  • measure pulse and blood oxygen
  • levels monitor sleep quality and women’s cycles
  • display notifications from apps and incoming calls
  • remind you that it’s time to move
  • assist during workouts, etc.

The watch supports 9 training modes: badminton, exercise bike, squats (although the pictogram shows a press exercise rather than squats), jump rope, yoga, mountaineering/hiking, cycling, running and walking. Since there is no GPS navigation in the device itself, you can use a smartphone to more accurately running, walking or cycling in the fresh air. In addition, with the help of a smart watch, you can control music on your smartphone and take pictures, and there is also a stopwatch and a smartphone search function.

Design and materials

Kieslect L11

The Kieslect L11 is stylized as a round wristwatch. The device is presented in a single color: the case is in a pink matte metallic with a pink band and a golden clasp. The colors are chosen very harmoniously, the watch looks stylish and feminine, and far more expensive than it actually is.

The body of the watch is made of aluminum, the display is protected by 2.5D glass, and the case is plastic on the reverse side. The case is protected according to the IP68 standard. The materials are high-quality and pleasant to the touch, everything fits perfectly. With dimensions of 46.9×40.5×11.0 mm, the weight of the smartwatch without a strap was only about 22 g. The Kieslect L11 is light and practically weightless.

There is a mechanical button on the case to the right of the display, which is responsible for waking up and turning off the screen, and it also performs the Back action. On the reverse side, you can see the the measuring sensors, a pair of charging terminals, as well as the brand name and technical info.

The band here is silicone, soft and quite comfortable, and the clasp is made of stainless steel. Its width is 18 mm, and due to the fact that the fixation is standard, it can be changed to any compatible size. By the way, on the manufacturer’s website you can find a similar band in 18 (!) different colors.

Display

The Kieslect L11 uses a 1.09-inch TFT-LCD matrix with a resolution of 240×240 pixels. The bezels around the display are quite large, which, in my opinion, worsens the overall impression. Due to the low resolution, the image is a bit pixelated, but for an inexpensive wearable gadget, this is quite excusable. There are 4 brightness modes in the settings. The viewing angles are excellent, the screen is perfectly readable indoors, but on the street, even in cloudy weather, it fades since the maximum brightness is a little lacking.

Kieslect L11

There are a lot of watch faces. Some of them are already installed on the watch, and the rest (there are dozens of them) can be installed from the application. Since the watch is feminine, the faces are as well. There are also informative options, but not much. However, if you are not satisfied with the existing options, you can create your own by using a pre-installed template in the app.

It is worth noting that, depending on the interface language used, the font size is different. For example, the font in Cyrillic is smaller than in English. It can be quite inconvenient for reading messages.

UI and controls

Since the Kieslect L11 has a touch-sensitive screen, you control it with swipes and touches. Of course, there is a physical button, but its functionality is minimal – turn the screen on and off and go back a step.

Swipe down from the main screen calls a curtain showing the remaining charge, the connection status, the Do not disturb mode and brightness adjustment.

Swipe in the opposite direction (up) opens access to the notification panel. Interaction with them using a smartwatch is not provided, notifications can only be deleted. If we talk about incoming calls, they can only be rejected by touching and holding the screen.

It is worth noting that the display notifications are not available for all applications and messengers. The list of supported applications is large (Instagram, Gmail, Messenger,WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, Twitter, etc.), but there is no Telegram in the list. It is likely that Telegram will also be available in the future, but for now it’s an issue.

A left-to-right gesture brings up a list of all functions, from pedometer and pulse oximeter, to notifications, stopwatch and settings.

And swipe from right to left opens access to the main widgets: physical activity, heart rate monitor, pulse oximeter, training modes (9 of them), sleep monitoring and music management. You can pause playback or turn it on, as well as rewind tracks forward/ backward. At the same time, the track name is not displayed on the screen and there is no volume control.

The watch faces change by holding the main screen for a long time. This feature is the same as on most wearable devices.

The UI of Kieslect L11 is quite simple and intuitive, but some elements are missing. For example, it would be convenient to set an alarm clock directly on the watch itself, rather than using an app, and a more thoughtful music management would not hurt. A weather widget wouldn’t hurt as well.

GloryFit app

The smartwatch works with the GloryFit app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android. For quick installation, you can use the QR code.

There are four main tabs here. The Home page collects statistics on physical activity (number of steps, distance traveled and calorie consumption) for the day, there is also access to weekly and monthly reports. A miniature weather widget is unexpectedly displayed in the upper left corner, and the connection status is displayed in the right corner. Below are graphs of the main measurements – heart rate, saturation and sleep monitoring. Unnecessary items can be hidden.

The next tab is Sports. It will come in handy if you use a smartphone and a watch for outdoor training. Here you can set a training goal, notifications about milestones (for example, notify about each kilometer traveled), as well as enable or disable voice guidance.

This is followed by the Device tab, where the main configuration of the smartwatch takes place. The name of the model and a graphic image of the remaining charge are displayed at the top. You can set one of the many watch faces or create your own. This is followed by setting up the heart rate monitor and pulse oximeter – here you can enable constant monitoring, and, in the case of measuring the level of oxygen in the blood, you can set the measurement mode and interval.

The following three points will allow you to configure work with notifications – calls, texts and notifications from apps. As mentioned above, there is a lot in the list, but not everything. You can set a reminder to warm up, an alarm clock, enabling the screen activation function when raising your hand and the Do not disturb mode.

In the General Settings there is a simple camera application, the shutter of which can be controlled from a watch, a watch search function, setting units of measurement, turning on the smartphone search function, setting the active screen time, time format, and also choosing the interface language.

The last tab contains mainly user settings – an avatar and personal data (height, weight, age, gender), goals, data about the female cycle. Here you can also sync with Google Fit or WeChat Sports, configure various permissions and get answers to frequently asked questions.

Battery life

Kieslect L11

The battery in the watch is 180 mAh, and the manufacturer promises about 3-5 days of active use with constant monitoring of pulse and blood oxygen levels enabled. And in standby mode, the watch can last up to 28 days. During testing, I did not use constant monitoring of either pulse or saturation, but periodically turned to these functions manually. During the day, with notifications and music playback, an average of about 8-10% of the charge went away, which means that with the heart rate monitor and pulse oximeter turned off, the watch can last about 10 days. The smart watch is charged from a proprietary magnetic cradle and charging takes about 1.5 hours.

Verdict

Kieslect L11

The Kieslect L11 attracts attention with its design – neat and feminine watches look really stylish, unlike fitness tracker capsules. However, the functionality of the device is closer to a fitness tracker than to smartwatches. The capabilities of Kieslect L11 are quite basic, the UI and application are not the most advanced, but there is a necessary basis for daily use: tracking and statistics, training modes, tracking heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep quality and female cycle, as well as notification from apps and music playback. In addition, it is possible to change the bands and faces, and the battery life is okay.

In my opinion, the Kieslect L11 is perfect for the role of the first wearable gadget for a girl of any age, and it can replace boring-looking fitness trackers.
