Made in Ukraine: Bosorka game review

Bosorka is the second game from the Ukrainian studio Sengi Games, and the first to receive positive reviews on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Does Bosorka really deserve such reviews and is it as dynamic as they say? Today we are going to find out.

Developer: Sengi Games
Price: $ 5.99

Storyline

This will be the shortest section in this review, because there is basically no plot. In this game, you play as a witch who is trying to cleanse the world of demons that have started to crawl out of a book she did something with, and she has to correct her own mistake. That’s all. But I can’t say that this is bad, it’s not the main goal of the game.

Gameplay

The main goal of the game is to give you pleasure from the process, from every demon killed, from every boss killed, from the development of your passage, from every new attempt, and this game does it 100%.

Bosorka is an exciting action game, a great mix of roguelike and shoot ’em up, and an excellent time-killer. Here, a witch moves around with a broom, which, by the way, is very pleasant to control, and shoots demons with her spells. The broom has three modes of movement: when you press the wasd key, it just flies, when you press Shift, it accelerates, and when you press Space, it makes a leap in the direction you set it. By the way, the jump is not only a jump, but it also deals damage and disorients demons for a while if you hit them during this jump.

It is also possible to use a special broom skill by pressing “F”, each broom has its own special advantage, as many as 5 of them. For example, the “Plain” one has the “Tornado” ability, which causes, you guessed it, a tornado that circles around you and damages all enemies in range. And so on with each broom, you can see more details in the gallery below.

Unfortunately, I haven’t opened 3 more brooms, but I promise I’ll come back to them.

As is customary in all roguelike games, there are all sorts of improvements scattered throughout each level, such as chests that give you passive improvements, more damage from basic attacks, or spells in mirrors. This is a new way of attacking, by the way, and there are 11 types in total. Each type of spell has its own completely new shot and damage mechanics, for example, I liked the Bulkun the most. A total of 100 units of each type of spell can fall out of one mirror, so you can’t shoot them endlessly. My advice is to always save them for the bosses at the end of the level, if you have enough for the regular demons, of course. For all these improvements, the player needs to pay with gold, which falls from the demons when they are killed.

There are also “Amulets” that hang on the right mouse button and activate various attacks around the witch. For example, there’s the Swarm Dance, which creates a “Big Chaotic Swarm of Terrifying Bugs” around the witch. In reality, it’s a small black cloud that deals quite a lot of damage to all the demons nearby.

There are also runes, so-called passives, which I mentioned above, such as, for example, an increase in attack or “Pussy”, which saves you from death, that is, revives you. You unlock them quite quickly, and there is a room after each boss to move to the next level of the game, where you can buy the same “Pussy”.

You can also free the eye from the cage, which will help you in battles with demons, set them on fire and distract attention to yourself, the Eye has only 16 hit points, but it will come in handy when a large group of demons is running at you, dreaming of sending you on your next attempt.

Graphics, optimisation

I must say right away that the game does not require any modern components at all, it runs smoothly even on old video cards and processors. The graphics are simple, but at the same time very nice – well-matched colours, beautiful animation for all spells, demons and bosses. I haven’t noticed any bugs, and everything is fine here too.

Conclusion

Bosorka is a gorgeous game in its category that will definitely appeal to gamers who love roguelike games. It really deserves all the positive reviews and more. Very dynamic and stylish, with good soundtracks, it definitely deserves your attention. And all this for only 119 UAH (about $3). For its price, this game is a must-have in your Steam or Epic Games library.
