Google Assistant is now available on Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Galaxy Watch 4 users can now use Google Assistant on their devices. It is available in the watch app drawer, can be triggered with a voice command, or assigned to a home button long press. The new update also provides access to Google Pay, Maps, and YouTube Music.

At Google I/O earlier this month, Samsung announced that Google Assistant support will be available sometime this summer. But it came earlier than expected. Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s executive vice president of products and experience, said the Assistant would allow for “faster and more natural voice interactions.”

Samsung has also announced that Spotify control will be available through Google Assistant. Support for other third-party applications is already underway. Google apps and services will be optimized for the Galaxy Watch series later this year.

Although Galaxy Watch 4 owners can sideload Google Assistant, official support should make it easier for most users to use this feature. The move comes a year after it became known that Samsung and Google are collaborating on Wear OS. Samsung is gradually abandoning the Tizen platform for its wearable devices and will continue to use Wear OS.
