Meta platforms Instagram and Threads are limiting political content recommendations

As the US presidential elections approach, the Meta platform switches up some areas of the services. Both Instagram and Threads are now limiting the recommendation of political content from candidates, parties, and their supporters. This will help these platforms stay away from controversies that might arise between political parties running for electoral positions.

Originally this feature was announced last month by Meta, but it’s now getting some tweaks. This feature aims to help Meta take a neutral stand in the elections and promotional campaigns that participants might launch on their platforms. So users will get to see fewer politically related posts except those coming from pages that they actively follow.

By default, Meta platforms, Instagram and Threads will greatly reduce the amount of political content users get to see. Despite making an official arrival last month, Meta is now rolling this feature out to their platforms, Instagram and Threads. So if you use either of these platforms, you should be expecting to get this feature anytime soon.

It’ll come up under the Instagram settings under suggested content. The feature is known as Political content and once you find it, you’ll notice that it’s on by default. Clicking on it will pull up two options: the first is to limit political content (by default) and the next is to not limit political content.

As long as you have your Instagram account connected to your Threads account, these settings will work on both platforms. So if you choose to limit or not to limit political content from the Instagram settings, it’ll apply to Threads as well. Over the next few days, more Instagram and Threads users will get access to this feature.
