According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on its official Facebook page, it was decided to form UAV strike companies in the Armed Forces. These units will be the first of their kind in the world.

The creation of drone strike companies was approved at the Staff meeting by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. The idea is being implemented jointly with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the State Special Communications Service as part of the Army of Drones project. To fully implement the program, the Ministry of Digital Transformation has already established a Coordination Headquarters with key ministries and services.

“This is necessary to implement a number of key reforms and scale up the production of UAVs to provide them to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The most professional servicemen have already been selected to lead the strike companies. Each of them will receive drones and ammunition, Starlink and other necessary equipment to defeat the enemy,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement. It is also reported that the main partner in training the strike companies will be the ‘Boryviter’ military school.

It is not yet known what kind of drones will be provided to the strike companies. It is possible that these will be kamikaze drones of different classes with different warheads and flight ranges, capable of solving combat missions at different distances.

“The Army of Drones is a joint project of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Communications Service, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation. The project’s comprehensive program includes the purchase of drones at the request of the military, as well as operator training. Money for the purchase of drones is raised on the UNITED24 fundraising platform. One of the projects involves Hollywood actor Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movie saga. His goal is to raise funds for 10 RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance drones, which have already proven to be effective and easy to operate UAVs for reconnaissance missions.

The platform also continues to collect funds for the formation of the first fleet of marine drones. It will protect the Ukrainian seas and peaceful cities from cruise missiles launched by Russian troops from their ships, as well as unblock the corridor for civilian ships carrying grain for the whole world. Unmanned multidisciplinary underwater vehicles are a unique Ukrainian development, and the ambitious plans were to form a fleet of one hundred such boats.
