Japan will join international sanctions against Russia’s Central Bank by limiting agreements. This was announced today by Prime Minister Fumio Kisida. He made the statement after a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Reuters reports.
Fumio Kishida also said that Japan would impose sanctions on Belarusian individuals and organizations. Among them is self-proclaimed president Alexander Lukashenko. Tokyo has also decided to limit exports from Belarus due to “the country’s obvious involvement in the invasion” of Ukraine.
Japan is just one of many countries that will impose sanctions on the Central Bank of Russia. The United Kingdom and the European Union have already taken similar economic measures. The United States is in no hurry to impose such sanctions. According to White House officials, such a move could destroy the global financial system.
For the most part, the world community has strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and tough sanctions were imposed as a response. These sanctions are mainly aimed at the economic sphere of Russia. Restrictive measures apply personally to Putin and his inner circle. The sanctions also targeted Russian banks and companies of international importance.
In addition, the European Union, the UK, Australia, Canada, and a number of other countries have closed the skies for Russian aircraft. The Kremlin also responded by banning flights from a number of countries. Another strong blow to Russia’s economy is the freezing of Nord Stream 2. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz ordered the suspension of certification as soon as the invasion began.
At the same time, both the United States and the European Union stated that they have not yet exhausted the full range of possible sanctions. In the event of an escalation of the conflict, Russia may experience complete isolation.
Note: negotiations between Russia and Ukraine began today. The delegations met in the Gomel region, the exact location is not disclosed for security reasons. At the moment, the dialogue has been going on for more than two hours.
