ASUS ROG Phone 6 series has been officially announced

ASUS ROG Phone series has dominated the gaming smartphone segment for the past few years. The devices are known for offering top-notch performance, excellent battery life, powerful speakers and a wide range of additional features that enhance users’ gaming experience.

And, after a bunch of leaks and teasers over the past few weeks, ASUS has finally taken the wraps off the ROG Phone 6 series. The new devices feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, 165Hz high-refresh rate displays, massive 6,000 mAh batteries, and some gaming-friendly features.

The ROG Phone 6 series includes two devices – the basic ROG Phone 6 and the ROG Phone 6 Pro. The phones are more or less identical and feature all the gaming benefits you’d expect from the ROG Phone series.

ASUS ROG 6 Pro

The new ROG Phone 6 Pro offers everything you’d expect from a flagship gaming smartphone, from cool design to powerful specs. The device is equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with an insane refresh rate of 165 Hz, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with an Adreno 730 graphics processor, up to 18 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of storage.

ASUS equipped the ROG Phone 6 Pro with a massive 6,000 mAh dual-cell battery which supports 65W fast wired charging through two USB Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, side triggers, and stereo speakers.

The ROG Phone 6 has a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, a 13MP wide-angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. On the front panel of the device is a 12 MP selfie camera.

In terms of connectivity, the device supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. Other noteworthy features include a three-microphone array, a customizable color ROG Vision PMOLED display on the back, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Software-wise, the ROG Phone 6 Pro runs ROG UI/Zen UI based on Android 12. Unfortunately, ASUS only promises two Android OS updates for the device and two years of security updates.

ASUS ROG 6

As mentioned earlier, ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro are practically identical devices. The base model drops a PMOLED ROG Vision color display on the back (instead, ASUS offers an RGB ROG logo there) and is limited to “modest” 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM in max configuration. The placement of the backlit ROG Phone logo is slightly different, so it should be easy to tell  Pro and non-Pro variants from one another.

In addition, the ROG Phone 6 will be available in Phantom Black and Storm White color options, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro will be available in the only Storm White color.

As expected, ASUS has equipped ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro with a wide range of gaming features. These include the AirTrigger 6 control system that allows users to display up to fourteen specific touch points on the screen at once, ultrasonic triggers on the right edge, four additional physical buttons with AeroActive Cooler 6, gyroscopic aiming and a host of software features to enhance the user experience.

In addition, ASUS released the ROG Kunai 3 controller for the ROG Phone 6 series, which is available in two colors – black and white.

ROG Phone 6 will go on sale in Europe at a price of €999. It will be available in a single configuration of 12GB + 256GB. When the 16 Gb model will be available there – it is not yet revealed. The ROG Phone 6 Pro will cost you €1,299. Like the base model, it will also come in one configuration with 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In addition, the phones come with a couple of cool new static and live wallpapers. XDA-Developers managed to extract the new ROG Phone 6 series wallpapers from the firmware of the device, and you can download them, using the link. The ROG Phone 6 series firmware includes eight new static wallpapers and new live wallpapers.
