Another year has passed, and we’ve seen an incredible array of devices hit the market. At Root Nation, we’ve thoroughly tested each and every one of them, and we’re here to help you decide which ones are worth your attention and which ones aren’t. From headphones and keyboards to video games and even some more unusual items, we’ve got something for everyone.
Headset: Logitech G ASTRO A50 X
There are many excellent headsets available, and we reviewed quite a few this year. Unsurprisingly, the best headset is also the most expensive one. That’s why you should consider buying now, when the price is much more appealing. The Logitech G ASTRO A50 X is fantastic, with impressive sound quality and a convenient way to connect all consoles. However, it may not be the best choice for PC gamers, so it’s important to think carefully before making a purchase.
Music gadget: FiiO DM13
FiiO continues releasing retro-inspired music players, and we are here for it. The new FiiO DM13 is a portable CD player that offers incredible sound and some nifty features. As of right now, it is the best way to listen to CDs that grow more hip with each new month.
Mobile accessory: GameSir G8+
There are a lot of mobile controllers on the market right now. Crkd Nitro Deck Plus, Razer Kishi, Backbone One, and many others are all decent picks, but there’s nothing that beats the GameSir G8+ for us. Positioned as a mobile controller, it also works incredibly well with the Nintendo Switch and even reasonably sized tablets. Thanks to BT, attaching it is a matter of seconds, and the build quality is excellent.
Keyboard: Logitech Keys-To-Go 2
This might seem like a weird pick: even after testing dozens of keyboards this year, some very impressive, it’s hard not to accept the fact that they all are very samey. Even some wild options with a screen are still your traditional keyboards with nothing that exciting. The Logitech Keys-To-Go 2 though, now that is interesting: a portable keyboard for tablets and phones, it impresses with how thin it is. It is, without a doubt, the most portable and convenient compact keyboard you can find, and it makes working on the go incredibly easy. In fact, I am typing this review using this keyboard right now.
Mouse: Hator Quasar 2 Ultra 4K
The Hator Quasar 2 Ultra 4K Wireless mouse is a top-notch, affordable option with excellent ergonomics, build quality, and features. Despite a few minor flaws, it is highly recommended for those seeking a good wireless mouse. It looks good, it’s built like a tank, and it’s perfect both for gamers and workaholics. And to sweeten the deal, it’s only $85.
Speakers: Kali Audio LP-UNF
It’s hard to believe that the Kali Audio LP-UNF, a pair of ultra nearfield speakers designed for close-up listening, cost only US$300. However, once you experience them, you’ll understand why they’re one of the best computer speakers you can buy for any price.
Headphones: FiiO FT1
Wired headphones in 2024? That’s exactly right. Tired of the sea of content, more and more music fans go back to retro gadgets. The FiiO FT1 looks like a million dollars, but in fact, it’s not that expensive. For less than $200, it features American black walnut cups, a nanowood fiber composite diaphragm, and a closed-back design for enhanced noise attenuation. The FT1 also includes a U-shaped sound-damping tube, 32Ω high-sensitivity design, and a premium headphone storage bag.
Monitor: ASUS ZenScreen MB229CF
The ASUS ZenScreen MB229CF is a versatile and portable monitor with excellent image quality, making it suitable for work, gaming, and on-the-go use. It’s hard to see just how convenient it is, but once you try it, it’s hard to let go. If you know someone who prefers working on the go or in remote setting, the ZenScreen might make a perfect present for them.
Something original: NeoRulerGO electronic ruler
The NeoRulerGO is not just an electronic ruler; it’s a versatile technological assistant that can be particularly useful for professionals who occasionally require precise measurements. It can be a valuable tool for architects, decorators, designers, and even carpenters. And, let’s be honest, it’s just a cool gadget for someone who has everything.
Ereaders are not as popular as they once were, but they are still a hot topic. The Paper Pro from reMarkable is something else though: it’s a note-taking tool designed to to be devoid of any destructions. No apps, no web browsing — only notes and sketches (or typing, if you buy the keyboard). And ebooks, if you want. In a way, it’s like the iPad Pro of e-devices: huge screen, premium materials, incredible feel, and an eye-watering price. It’s limited, but that’s the idea.
Game: Astro Bot
Each year we’re being flooded with excellent games, and this one is no exception. Choosing just one is not an easy task, but it’s hard to not recommend the wonderful Astro Bot. A new platformer from Sony, it’s a new take on the genre featuring the painfully cute robot on a mission to save his friends who happen to look like heroes from some of the most famous video games of all time. Fantastic music, gorgeous visuals and easy controls make it a perfect gift for everyone, no matter the age.
