EarFun Wave Pro Review: A Lot For Less

-

About a month ago I got my hands on the new EarFun Wave Pro9 headsets and for the price I expected a fairly decent experience. However, after weeks of putting this pair of headsets to everyday use, I must say that its features far outweigh its price. The sound quality the Wave Pro gives is very comparable to that of more expensive brand names like Beats while being more affordable.

EarFun the maker of the Wave Pro did a great job with its design quality and comfort. This headset excels in so many areas, and it’s difficult to find areas for improvement. Let’s now take an in-depth look at the EarFun Wave Pro.

Positioning and Pricing

EarFun Wave Pro

When it comes to the pricing of this device, the EarFun Wave Pro technology media retails at just under $100 making it a very affordable option. Originally unveiled on January 9, 2024, this pair of hybrid active noise-cancelling headsets has come to be praised by several technology media outlets.

Over the past month, I’ve had my hands on this pair of headsets and have put them through rigorous testing. At a retail price under $100 can this pair of headsets from EarFun compete with the teeming market of over-the-ear headsets? Let’s find out!

What’s in the package

EarFun Wave Pro

The first mind-blowing area of the EarFun Wave Pro that caught my attention at first glance is its packaging. This product comes with a simple packaging style on the outside, featuring a regular box with product description information written on its sides.

Opening the package, you’re greeted with a well-designed carry-on case made out of finely textured materials. The feel of this carry-on case is similar to the feel of traditional Denim Jeans with the EarFun logo etched into its side. You’ll also find the user manual inside the packaging of the EarFun Wave Pro.

Opening this case by unzipping it, I’ll reveal the EarFun Wave Pro, as well as its accessories. These accessories include the USB-C charging cable and a 3.5mm jack connection cable.

Construction, design, material, and build quality

The design on the Wave Pro is simple yet sweet, as EarFun integrates a lot of subtle design elements to brighten things up. Starting with the carry-on case, the exterior of this case is textured while the interior comes with a soft touch finish.

The headsets themselves are made of plastic, but not any cheap feeling plastic. At first glance, this headset looks as though it is made from an expensive metallic material thanks to its glitter finish.

In addition to this solid-feeling plastic material, the EarFun Wave Pro features foam padding on the head and ear rests. The headset arms are extendible, revealing a metal bit for a more comfortable fitting regardless of your head size.

The ear cups feature two joints, one allowing for slight swivelling and the other allowing the ear cups to be folded into the headrest. These joints help make the headset fold into a more portable design which is easy to move around.

There are two ports on this headset, the first being the USB-C port on the left ear cups and the second is the 3.5 mm jack port on the right cup. This headset comes with four buttons on the right ear cup, these buttons are the volume rocker keys, the power button, and the noise cancellation button.

The EarFun logo is written on the exterior side of both ear cups within a ring there for aesthetics. For proper fitting, the metal part of the headset hidden within the headrest supports a reasonable range of flex while maintaining its strength.

Each ear cup comes with three speakers, and the right-facing ear cup comes with a microphone. Overall, the design of the EarFun Wave Pro is very impressive, and its materials feel more expensive than its asking price.

Experience using the EarFun Wave Pro

EarFun Wave Pro

Over the past month, I have been opportune to use the EarFun Wave Pro extensively and so far I’m impressed. Judging from its retail price, I expected a fairly decent experience from the Wave Pro, but I was met with more than that.

In terms of its fit and comfort, the Wave Pro proved to be comfortable through long hours of usage. Over long hours of usage, the Wave Pro didn’t press on my ears or prove to be uncomfortable to wear.

EarFun Wave Pro

The quality of the EarFun Wave Pro is comparable to more expensive options from the likes of Sony and Beats. Moving around with the Wave Pro was also easy during my period testing it, as its carry-on case came in handy.

Strangely, finding a negative side of this headset was difficult for me, as it ticked off all the boxes I have for more expensive headsets. EarFun might have created the perfect cheap headset for everyone.

Audio Quality and Battery Life

EarFun Wave Pro

When it comes to audio quality, the EarFun Wave Pro once again ticks all my boxes. The sound quality from the Wave Pro is very crisp with enough bass, something that most affordable headsets miss.

EarFun advertises this headset as their first pair of hybrid active noise-cancellation headsets. For this, EarFun adds three listening modes to the Wave Pro, being Ambience mode, noise cancellation mode, and Normal mode.

EarFun Wave Pro

Switching through each of these modes is easy as there is a dedicated button for that. Noise cancellation mode blocks out all distractions from the outside world while the headsets are in use.

Ambience mode allows sounds into the headsets while in use, to do this the Wave Pro makes use of the microphones to record sounds around you. Normal mode simply does nothing but allow music to play like it would on a regular headset.

During my period of using this headset, I noticed that it features a solid battery life. On a single charge, I was getting about 2–3 days of regular usage. However, EarFun indicates that this headset can go 80 hours on a single charge, which I only achieved on less frequent usage.

Controls

EarFun Wave Pro

The controls on the Wave Pro are quite easy to understand as there are only four buttons to work with. All four buttons are found on the Wave Pro’s right ear cup, the buttons are the power, volume rockers (increase and decrease), and NC buttons.

Android:

iOS:

Aside from these few controls, users of the Wave Pro can also benefit from the in-app controls that are offered. To get access to this app, Android users will need to download it via Google Play Store. Users of iOS devices can access this app via the App Store on their mobile device.

On the app, users of the Wave Pro can change the name of their device for easy identification before pairing. They can also switch between six listening modes, adding three more modes to those accessible via the headset’s NC button. The three new modes are wind noise cancellation, strong ANC, and game mode.

Users can also wiggle the Wave Pro’s equalizer to suit their personal preferences when listening to music. The app also gives users the opportunity to customize the buttons and what they control. Other controls include dual device connections, Bluetooth audio quality, voice prompt settings, and automatic shutdown.

From the app, users can also access new firmware updates to the Wave Pro or any other EarFun product that they own. The app not only comes with very impressive controls but is also very user-friendly and easy to understand.

Conclusion and Final Verdict

EarFun Wave Pro

After a month of intensive usage, I can confidently recommend the EarFun Wave Pro to anyone looking to purchase a new headset. Despite retailing for less than $100, the Wave Pro is on par with more expensive $200 headset options.

Are there any areas of the EarFun Wave Pro that I feel need adjustment or improvement? Considering its pricing, there is nothing that I feel needs to be improved upon.

EarFun ticked all the boxes with the Wave Pro headsets and if you’re looking to purchase a new headset this holiday season I’ll recommend this option. Regardless of your listening preferences, you can connect via Bluetooth or with the 3.5 mm jack for usage on a laptop.
