Information on this coming factory was shared by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet via his official X page. This follows a previous announcement by the Prime Minister at a gathering for small and medium-sized enterprises in the country.
As it turns out, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has met with BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division CEO Liu Xueliang. Their meeting was regarding this coming factory, and making an official announcement of the coming factory means that both parties have an agreement. From the reports on this BYD Cambodia factory, we learn that it will be a 20,000-unit capacity factory for the manufacturing of BYD vehicles.
Some experts are already analysing this decision by BYD to build a factory in Cambodia, considering the events surrounding it. The first thing to note is that the announcement of this coming factory is the third in the region in recent times. Already, BYD is building an Indonesian factory after suspending work on its Vietnamese factory.
With the Vietnamese factory work still on hold, BYD seems to be moving over to Cambodia to build yet another factory in the region. Analysts point out that the peak amount of electric vehicles sold in a year in Cambodia is 663 in 2022. The growth of electric vehicles in Cambodia isn’t as impressive, but there seems to be some potential in the region, and this might be BYD’s reason to build a factory in the region.
At this point, the only information concerning this BYD Cambodia factory is from the Prime Minister of the region. BYD has yet to make any statement on the factory, so we can’t confirm this until official information is available.
