The Chinese automobile excellence BYD Seal has finally launched in Japan. This electric vehicle from BYD steps foot into the Japanese automobile market, spotting competitive pricing and impressive features. While this vehicle isn’t any different from the Seal in other regions, it’s impressive to see it make an official entry into the Japanese region.
BYD is retailing two variants of this vehicle to potential buyers in the Japanese automobile market. The variants are the single-motor rear-wheel drive version and the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant. Each of these variants will bring the same battery pack capacity but a different driving range on a single charge.
BYD equips this electric vehicle with an 82.56kWh battery pack, which delivers 640km of range on the single-motor rear-wheel drive variant. As for the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant, it will achieve 575km of range on a single charge. The direct competitor to this EV from the Chinese automobile giant is the Tesla Model 3 with both packing similar performance.
One of the major differences between the BYD Seal and the Tesla Model 3 is that the latter comes with three variants. However, the BYD Seal starts at a more affordable price tag in Japan and stickers at a starting price of 5.28 million yen ($33,140). Those looking out to purchase the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant will pay 6.05 million yen ($37,888).
For the extra buck, buyers of the BYD Seal dual-motor all-wheel drive variant will get more power, and better handling, but less range. Those going for a fun driving experience can pick the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant. While those not looking for much can opt for the single-motor rear-wheel drive model.
