If you live in Europe and are looking for a small EV to purchase, the Hyundai Inster might be a great choice for you. This new EV from the Korean auto manufacturer is what I’ll call a “pocket-friendly” SUV that stands out from the crowd. Hyundai refers to this new vehicle as an A-segment sub-compact electric vehicle, and they hope that it’ll catch your attention.
At first glance, you might feel that this new vehicle is a 3-door SUV, but if you look closer you’ll discover that it is a 5-door SUV. Due to the flush positioning of the rear door handles, it might look like there are no rear doors on this sub-compact SUV. In terms of design, I like what Hyundai put together for this vehicle, as its main headlights sit below the daytime running lights.
Being an electric vehicle, the new Hyundai Inster doesn’t need front grills, and it has none. At its rear, you’ll find tail lights that share similar styling to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 that run from one side of the vehicle to the other. On the interior, the design of this new vehicle is very simple, with a digital gauge cluster and a large infotainment system. All climate control buttons sit below the infotainment system, with the gear shifter behind the steering column.
But design is not all that the new Hyundai Inster brings to the playing field, as this EV comes with either a 42kWh or 49kWh battery pack. Both battery pack models bring a single motor drivetrain, producing 71.1kW of power for the smaller pack and 84.5kW for the larger battery pack. Hyundai claims that the larger battery pack will achieve 355km worth of range on a single charge.
The charge time of this vehicle from 10% to 80% is just 30 minutes, making it a great commuter EV. The European market is preparing to welcome the Hyundai Inster to its region, and reports have it that this vehicle will retail at a starting price of €20,000. Towards the end of this year, we’ll get more details on this vehicle’s arrival in Europe, but for now, the Korean market will welcome it to showrooms by summer.
