A few weeks ago, the development of two Nissan EV saloons was fully on the way. Now this plan of the Japanese automobile manufacturer is coming to a halt as the firm plans on taking a different turn in the US market. In place of these two EVs, the brand will turn its attention to expanding its line-up in the US by adding about five new models to the market.
Taking the place of the electric saloons will be some battery-powered crossover SUVs. These vehicles will launch ahead of the electric saloons as Nissan shakes up its launch timeline to accommodate more models. This move from Nissan is not a strange one, as we have seen similar moves from other automobile manufacturers worldwide.
Currently, the demand for EVs in the global market seems to be declining and manufacturers are adjusting to this change. Their adjustment involves shifting over to the development and production of hybrid and gas vehicles in place of EVs. This doesn’t mean that most brands are abandoning their EV dreams and goals, but it means that they are shifting to models that are in demand (hybrid and gas-engine cars).
Another reason behind the halt of the development of the two Nissan TV saloons is the demand for crossover SUVs in the US market. Since the demand for saloons is less than that for crossover SUVs, Nissan is moving over to develop what people want. After the launch of these coming Nissan battery-powered (possibly hybrid) crossover SUVs, the brand might turn its attention to the electric saloon models.
Over the next two years, Nissan will continue to ramp up its EV endeavours worldwide. But in the meantime, the US market will need to wait a little bit more for the arrival of the two Nissan EV saloons. As we approach the launch of these vehicles, more details about them will become available to the public.
