Chinese EV brands are expanding rapidly and the Zeekr 009 preparing to launch in Indonesia and Malaysia are proof of this fact. Last week, Chinese EV brand, Zeekr, announced its partnership with PT Premium Auto Prima of Indonesia and Sentinel Automotive Sdn of Malaysia. These partnerships will bring the brand’s EV models into two more regions in the Southeast Asian automobile market.
According to the reports on this expansion, the first Zeekr retail store in Indonesia will sit in the heart of the region, Jakarta. This will help drive sales as Jakarta is one of the region’s most bustling states with a lot of thriving businesses. As for the Malaysian market, Zeekr is to set up its first store in Kuala Lumpur, following the same strategy as with Indonesia.
Kuala Lumpur, just like Jakarta, is the heart and capital state of Malaysia and one of the most business-oriented states. Having its first retail stores in the capital cities of these regions will help Zeekr to grow in popularity and also make impressive sales. Already, the Chinese EV manufacturer has brought a few of its models to both Indonesia and Malaysia.
The Zeekr 009 and Zeekr X SUV are already in production and preparing to launch in these regions. Both Indonesia and Malaysia drive on the left-hand side of the road, hence making cars that retail in these regions right-hand drive (RHD). China, the home country of Zeekr drives on the right-hand side of the road, hence making their cars left-hand drive (LHD).
So there is a need for the Zeekr 009 and Zeekr X SUV to launch in Indonesia and Malaysia to switch driving positions. Available reports have it that right-hand drive (RHD) versions of these two EVs are already in production and awaiting official launch. Once they launch, Indonesia and Malaysia will join the 25 markets where Zeekr is currently retailing its products.
