The unconventional dual OLED display design of the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA has the potential to enhance productivity significantly.

ASUS occasionally steps beyond its standard lineup of traditional laptops to introduce something more experimental and innovative. This year, the Taiwanese company is once again pushing boundaries with a new generation of dual-screen laptops under the Zenbook Duo series, aiming to bring fresh ideas to an otherwise predictable market. This compact device features two high-quality 14-inch OLED panels, a detachable keyboard for added flexibility, and solid performance powered by the latest Intel processors.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is a strong example of the company’s creative approach, though it’s more of a refined iteration of last year’s model rather than a groundbreaking release. Even so, its unconventional design is sure to attract attention.

I had the opportunity to test this unique laptop, and in this review, I’ll go over all the key details. Let’s dive in.

What’s innovative about the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA

What’s New?

As expected, the most notable upgrade in the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is its processor. This year’s model features the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, a chip designed for improved performance and AI-driven tasks. With Intel Evo Edition certification, the processor also supports Copilot+ PC capabilities, offering enhanced security and system optimization. ASUS has also upgraded the battery—a 75Wh unit that now supports 20% more charge cycles compared to the previous generation. On the audio front, the laptop comes with a Harman Kardon sound system, certified for Dolby Atmos, promising a more immersive listening experience.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

At least according to the official press release, there are no other major differences from the previous model. The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA retains its signature dual 14-inch OLED touchscreens, each with a 3K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 500 nits. The displays support the ASUS Pen (sold separately) with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and ASUS’ ScreenXpert software enables multi-touch gesture controls.

The screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and come with several certifications, including Dolby Vision, Pantone validation, and DisplayHDR True Black 500. Additionally, the laptop meets the MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability standard.

Thanks to its dual-display setup, the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA offers multiple usage modes. It can function as a traditional laptop with the keyboard and a touchpad on the lower screen, as a standard clamshell laptop, or in a dual-screen mode with or without the detachable keyboard. It can also be used in desktop mode with both displays unfolded and the keyboard detached, in a book-style orientation with the hinge positioned vertically, or in a 180° sharing mode for collaboration. The keyboard attaches via Pogo Pin connectors on the lower display’s edge, while built-in magnets ensure proper alignment with the second screen’s contact points and corners.

The Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is a relatively thin and lightweight device, measuring 14.6 mm in thickness and weighing 1.35 kg. Despite its compact design, it offers a versatile selection of ports, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, an HDMI 2.1 (TMDS), and a 3.5mm audio jack, ensuring broad connectivity options.

What’s in the package

The packaging for the Zenbook series is both aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly. The contents of the box are exceptionally well-organized and comprehensive.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

In addition to the laptop itself, the package includes a relatively compact 65W power adapter and a two-meter USB Type-C to USB Type-C charging cable. You’ll also find the necessary paperwork, a warranty card, a stylish ASUS-branded backpack, a simple travel case, and a pleasant bonus—the ASUS Pen 2.0 stylus, which comes with a short USB-C cable.

It’s a pretty good package for a laptop.

Evolutionary changes in design

ASUS has considerable experience with various “transformers,” but the tested ZenBook Duo is surprisingly hard to distinguish from a traditional laptop.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Essentially, it’s a classic laptop, with the only difference being that a display is placed in the lower section instead of a keyboard. However, the keyboard is still included—it can be easily “attached” to the lower part of the screen using built-in magnets.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The design, which may seem simple at first glance, is actually brilliant and refined to perfection. The laptop’s body is made entirely of durable aluminum. This time, ASUS decided not to rely on the hybrid ceramic material they use in other models. Unfortunately, this also means that fingerprints and smudges are quite visible on the surface, and the device lacks enhanced scratch resistance.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

In terms of size, this is certainly one of the largest 14-inch laptops. Its dimensions of 31.35 x 21.79 x 1.46-1.99 cm speak for themselves. The weight is around 1.65 kg with the detachable keyboard and 1.35 kg without it. However, thanks to the striking appearance of the top lid, it doesn’t give the impression of being bulky. On the contrary.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Even when closed, it looks like a perfectly ordinary business laptop. It also meets the MIL-STD 810H military standard for durability, which adds to its appeal as a solid choice for purchase.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Overall, the laptop’s design is excellent. Nothing feels flimsy or squeaky, and everything fits well. It’s clear that this model is a premium member of the Zenbook series. It has all the signature features of the well-known series: the distinctive lid design with futuristic lines, the hinge typical of this line, and the added bonus of being able to fully open the lid to a 180° angle.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Compared to a standard laptop, the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA has several unique features made possible by the second display at its base.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

First and foremost, it features an integrated metal stand with an adjustable angle of up to 70°, which can be used both vertically and horizontally. The stand is fully made of metal, giving it a solid and durable feel, even for long-term use.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

However, more importantly, the stand can be used as a replacement for a traditional laptop stand, positioning the top display at eye level. This significantly enhances ergonomic comfort, while the bottom display remains in the typical position of a regular laptop screen.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

In this setup, the keyboard can be placed in front of the system, transforming it into a workstation that offers a completely different level of workflow compared to a regular laptop.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

However, the stand also allows for another configuration, where the ZenBook Duo is positioned like an open book. In this case, you’ll need to pay a bit more attention to stability, but you definitely won’t have to worry about the laptop wobbling or tilting, as long as it’s placed on a solid surface.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The bottom base also features quite strong magnets and POGO contacts for attaching the keyboard. Simply snap it onto the lower display, and the magnets take care of the rest. Everything stays perfectly in place—during testing, I never once had a situation where I worried it would disconnect on its own. You can even shake the device lightly, and the keyboard will stay securely attached.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Removing the keyboard is easy—just lift the top part slightly, and the magnets will release. For example, you don’t necessarily have to remove it when moving the device, as the laptop closes even with the keyboard attached, which makes transportation much more convenient.

ASUS Zenbook Duo ports and features

In terms of ports, we are dealing with a standard ultrabook at its best. ASUS has ensured that all ports are available on both sides. This includes HDMI 2.1 TMDS and a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port on the right side.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

On the left side, you have a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, another USB-C Thunderbolt 4, and a combined 3.5mm audio jack. It’s worth noting that one of the USB-C ports is occupied by Thunderbolt 4, through which the laptop is powered, for example, with the 65W charger included in the package.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The lack of an RJ-45 port for wired Ethernet connection is notable, but it’s compensated by fast Wi-Fi 7, so make sure your routers support the new standards.

The laptop could benefit from an SD or microSD card slot, especially given its positioning as a solution for creatives. Additionally, one might note the limited implementation of the USB Type-C port on the keyboard.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Above the main screen, there are two microphones, a light sensor, a Full HD camera, and an infrared sensor, all of which contribute to the smooth operation of Windows Hello for quick face recognition.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Above the top edge of the additional screen, you’ll find the power button and two functional indicators, one of which displays the battery status.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The laptop’s body also features several interesting elements. On the bottom, in addition to the ventilation grills, there are four wide anti-slip rubber feet and a few smaller ones on the edges of the screen, ensuring the device remains stable in various positions.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The cooling system consists of three ventilation openings (on the sides and rear), which are sufficient for an ultrabook with an energy-efficient processor and no dedicated GPU (dGPU).

Pre-installed software includes the MyASUS app as a command center, GlideX for remote access, and the useful ScreenXpert utility. This is the standard suite for devices from the Taiwanese manufacturer.

ScreenXpert enhances the management of the laptop. Specifically, a dedicated widget improves the process of configuring various programs on the screen, offering predefined workgroup settings. The MyASUS utility serves as a central hub with four main tabs for updates, hardware diagnostics, and configuring power, performance, audio, video, and input devices.

The program covers the specifics of both OLED displays, the harman/kardon Premium audio system (which is very loud, but the sound comes from the body, slightly muffling it), and the microphones. It also includes battery protection settings and performance modes, allowing you to perfectly tailor the new Zenbook to your needs.

Keyboard and touchpad

The program covers the specifics of both OLED displays, the harman/kardon Premium audio system (which is very loud, but the sound comes from the body, slightly muffling it), and the microphones. It also includes battery protection settings and performance modes, allowing you to perfectly tailor the new Zenbook to your needs.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The keyboard does not have a numeric keypad. The Shift keys are long on both sides, and the arrow keys are smaller in size. The keys feature both Ukrainian and English letters. The keyboard also has backlighting with adjustable intensity.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The keyboard is detachable and can be used separately, as its built-in battery lasts for a long time.

The laptop discharges faster than the keyboard. Charging is done via a USB Type-C cable or directly from the laptop when the keyboard is attached to its usual position.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The physical touchpad is of medium size and works well, but it lacks a bit of height.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

There is also a proprietary virtual keyboard in several variations. It can be stretched or reduced to the desired size. Similarly, the touchpad can be positioned on the side, at the bottom, across the entire width of the lower panel, or completely disappear from the touchscreen.

Two gorgeous 14″ 3K OLED displays

The most notable feature of the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is its dual-display setup. However, even if it had just one screen, this laptop would still receive a positive review for this aspect.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

These are two identical touch panels under the Lumina brand. The Taiwanese company typically uses them in premium-class devices. The advantages primarily lie in the higher contrast and better color reproduction.

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA features two identical 14″ OLED displays with a 3K resolution (2880×1800) and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Both are touchscreens and are protected by glass. The response time is 0.2 ms, and the refresh rate is 120 Hz. ASUS promises 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, with the screens capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors. The device is certified with VESA Display HDR True Black 500. The peak brightness for HDR content is 500 nits, while the maximum brightness in manual mode is 400 nits.

The screen-to-body ratio of the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is 91%, with minimal bezels on three sides. However, when the laptop is in use, there is still a visible black space between the bezel and the actual display due to the protective glass. Speaking of which, the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass, which is particularly important for two reasons. First, the presence of a second screen increases the potential for risk. Second, both displays are touchscreen panels, so users will frequently interact with them. Additionally, the displays are coated with an oleophobic layer, which works well at preventing fingerprints.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

As shown in the testing results, the promised 100% DCI-P3 color gamut has been achieved, but the actual brightness turned out to be lower than the 400 nits. Testing contrast and uniformity of backlighting on OLED screens is unnecessary, as the results will be perfect by nature of the technology.

In the MyASUS app, you can choose the Splendid display mode, which offers different color gamut options and color temperature settings. There are also numerous settings designed to extend the lifespan of the OLED screens, such as pixel shifting, screensaver activation after a period of inactivity, taskbar hiding, taskbar transparency, dimming inactive windows, and eliminating flickering at low brightness with DC Dimming. The refresh rate can be set to a fixed 60Hz, 120Hz, or an automatic mode.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Since both displays are touchscreens, it makes perfect sense for ASUS to include the Pen 2.0 stylus in the Zenbook Duo package. The stylus is shaped and weighted like a regular pen and operates using the MPP (Microsoft Pen Protocol), capable of delivering 4096 pressure levels. Its accuracy is so precise that the package includes four replaceable tips to simulate different pencil hardness levels — 2H, H, HB, and B.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The three buttons on the stylus provide more functionality than a typical mouse. A 30-minute USB-C charge is enough for 140 hours of use. The only downside is its price, around $100, which also impacts the overall cost of the laptop.

In short, the impression from the display is incredible. These two touchscreen OLED panels fully meet the expectations and perform exceptionally well.

Camera, microphone, speakers

Modern laptops need to have good cameras, microphones, and speakers, given the frequency of online communication, meetings, conferences, and lectures. These components are essential for these activities. In this regard, the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA performs well and meets expectations.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The laptop features a mid-range Full HD camera located in the top bezel of the screen. With a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, this is becoming a standard for modern laptops. The camera supports facial recognition, enabling the Windows Hello feature. In addition to the image-capturing lens, there is a depth-sensing module, allowing the camera to be used for system login. The camera settings include features partially supported by artificial intelligence (AI), such as background customization (blurring or changing it), eye contact correction, and auto-framing, which leverages the built-in neural processing unit (NPU).

I really enjoy using Windows Hello because it’s simple and convenient. Just open the laptop, look at the screen, and start working. Additionally, this ASUS laptop doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Now, a few words about the built-in speakers. The sound is provided by Harman Kardon, with two speakers in total. The sound quality is solid, but it lacks volume. The speakers are quite loud and support Dolby Atmos, but I wasn’t completely impressed with them.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

No, this doesn’t mean that the speakers sound bad or there’s an issue with volume. For watching movies, TV shows, and YouTube videos, they’re perfectly adequate. However, they’re not suitable for music listening. They lack richness and bass, and music doesn’t sound quite as it should. I know this is a common issue with most modern laptops, but I’m just stating the facts. The situation is saved by the presence of the classic 3.5mm audio jack. I was also testing the HATOR Hyperpunk 3 USB at the same time, so I was able to enjoy high-quality sound. Additionally, the second screen came in handy, as I could open Spotify on it while working on the main screen.

I have almost no complaints about the microphones. They worked great during video calls. Everything is clear and free of unwanted noise. Particularly for conference calls, the input sound beamforming feature proves to be very useful—either the 360-degree mode or the directional microphone for a single speaker. Additionally, the noise cancellation works excellently, so there will definitely be no issues in that regard.

Performance

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is one of the first laptops equipped with Intel’s next-generation processors.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The tested model is equipped with a 16-core Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor, featuring the integrated Intel Arc 140T graphics.

It is complemented by fast 32GB DDR5 RAM running at 7467 MHz, which is a considerable amount for a laptop.

This is further complemented by a very fast 2TB SSD (M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0).

The Intel processor itself offers top-tier performance, comparable to the competing AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. In Single-Core performance, it lags slightly behind, while in multi-core tasks, it pulls ahead by a small margin. Overall, the two are quite similar, which is certainly a positive. When choosing a new laptop, there’s no need to be afraid to favor one brand over the other.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The integrated Intel Arc 140T GPU delivers significantly better results. I played all games at native resolution with medium graphics settings, achieving an average of 39 FPS in Hitman World of Assassination, 42 FPS in Forza Horizon 5, and 37 FPS in Doom Eternal.

By lowering the detail and resolution settings, you can easily achieve frame rates above 120 FPS in many games, fully taking advantage of the higher refresh rate displays. While this isn’t exactly a gaming laptop, it can handle quite a bit and offers enough power to run modern games after a long workday.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The configuration is powerful, especially considering the compact form factor. Benchmark results are quite high, particularly when it comes to processor performance.

The integrated Arc graphics show a noticeable performance boost compared to Intel’s previous-generation integrated graphics. However, it is still not on par with dedicated gaming models.

Cooling and stability of the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA

To be perfect, the laptop just needs better cooling, although I understand that with the second display in place, this is currently not feasible. Paradoxically, thanks to the detachable keyboard, you hardly notice the laptop heating up. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean it won’t overheat. During gaming and testing, the processor temperature reached 90º, even with the fans running at full speed. You may also notice some slight throttling.

It’s worth noting that the laptop features an active cooling system with two fans, two heat pipes, a graphene layer, and a heat spreader located between the OLED panel and the motherboard.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The increased temperature is noticeable on the surface of the laptop, raising concerns about how this might affect the lifespan of the OLED display, which is positioned directly above the processor. Fortunately, there were no critical issues that would prevent you from keeping your finger on the screen. During intense workloads, the fans become quite loud, but during typical office tasks, they are almost inaudible. In this regard, ASUS deserves credit for making the cooling system as efficient as possible, considering the design of the laptop.

Battery life

I understood that having two screens with such powerful capabilities would inevitably affect the laptop’s battery life. While the battery is quite large at 75 Wh, even doubling its capacity wouldn’t have been enough for a full 8-hour workday in a browser.

During testing, I primarily used the Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA for writing articles and reviews, editing photos and videos, and conducting research. On average, the laptop lasted around three hours with both screens active and four hours with a single display after a full charge. Charging to 100% took about 90 minutes (in sleep mode), 80% took about 1 hour when powered off, or 1.5 hours with active browser use. Testing was done with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth enabled, screen brightness set to ~30%, and in maximum performance mode.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

What was disappointing was the laptop’s sensitivity to workloads in battery mode. Regularly switching between 20 Microsoft Edge tabs spread across two windows on both displays showed that the system couldn’t maintain smooth performance, even with the second screen disabled. The solution? Simply plug in the power, and the Zenbook Duo 2025 operates at full capacity.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Regarding battery life, the 75 Wh battery is sufficient for over 3 hours of work under maximum load (maximum brightness, Word on one display, YouTube on the other). In office software tests and PCMark 10, the promised 13.5 hours of battery life is indeed achievable, but only with the screen brightness set to the minimum.

How to work with two screens in practice

I already had some experience with this type of laptop, as I tested the ASUS Zenbook DUO (2024) UX8406 last year. But every time, there’s always something new to discover.

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA definitely creates an impressive “wow” factor if it’s your first time using such a device. You’ll definitely surprise friends, colleagues, or acquaintances. The displays can be positioned vertically to provide additional screen space, which is particularly useful for programmers and more. It’s always nice to work with large displays, and here, you can fit it all into the familiar laptop form factor. Many will appreciate positioning the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA like an open book, with the keyboard next to it. It feels like you’re working with a device from the future. This is definitely one of the device’s major strengths.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The use of two screens opens up countless possibilities: photo editing, video editing, drawing, working with spreadsheets, watching educational materials on one screen while working on the other, listening to music on Spotify, or simply enjoying convenient multitasking – it all depends on the user’s needs.

To be honest, I’m still a fan of the classic laptop setup, so I often just place the keyboard on a second screen and get to work. However, there are times when I do want to try out the dual-screen experience. That’s where a solid stand comes in handy. You can position the laptop almost vertically, which places the second screen right in front of your eyes, while the keyboard stays in its usual position. It looks a bit strange, but it’s surprisingly practical.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

Most of the time, I use an external display for work. Naturally, it’s larger than the 14-inch screen on this laptop, so working with two screens felt a bit unusual. However, this setup could be useful during travel, especially if you’re used to working with an additional monitor.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

I often found myself struggling with how to arrange everything on my desk, especially the keyboard. It’s a challenge to find a proper spot for it. So, using the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA on your lap definitely won’t be the most comfortable option.

However, this device will appeal to those in creative professions. The excellent OLED screens are great for artists or web designers to draw and create various compositions. Additionally, the package includes a high-quality stylus. Musicians could also make good use of the second screen for composing and arranging music.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is undoubtedly an innovative laptop and rightly earns its place in the market. It stands out primarily due to the use of two OLED panels, which provide an excellent visual experience and could enhance productivity. However, there is another side to the story, namely the high price. Ultimately, it’s up to the individual to decide whether the two screens justify the additional cost. For many potential users, the price is too steep, and most will likely opt for a more traditional laptop instead.

Who would I recommend the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA to? This device is really for those who have ever found themselves sitting in front of their laptop and wished for a second screen right then and there. Placing the ASUS Zenbook Duo in a café or on a train would definitely turn heads and draw curious looks. Alternatively, it can be used as a regular laptop with a single screen, and despite being a bit thicker, no one would even suspect there’s a second screen hidden inside. A nice bonus is the detachable keyboard, which proves very useful during long working sessions.

ASUS Zenbook DUO 2025

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (2025) UX8406CA is a laptop that surprises, shocks, and reshapes the perception of what a modern laptop can be. I’m impressed by how many thoughtful solutions ASUS has implemented in this product. It’s hard to believe that this is a mass-produced laptop and not just a conceptual model hinting at a distant future. I initially expected the second screen to be just an accessory I’d use while working at my desk. However, the solution turned out to be so practical, and I’ve become so accustomed to it that I don’t want to part with it.
