Today, we’re taking a closer look at the OPPO Reno13 5G — a versatile smartphone that combines a premium design with built-in AI features. As the co-founder and former CEO of Yahoo! once said, “Smartphones are no longer just gadgets. They’ve become an extension of our lives — a key to the world we live in.”

Those words still hold true today. Smartphones have evolved to the point where imagining life without them feels nearly impossible. As a result, countless brands compete for our attention — though not all succeed, they certainly don’t stop trying. The mid-range smartphone segment, in particular, has become a crowded and competitive space, where manufacturers are constantly battling to stand out in a sea of similar specs and features. OPPO is no exception. The company recently introduced its Reno13 Series, a new lineup that’s already beginning to make waves globally.

The Reno lineup from OPPO has always stood out for its elegant design, advanced camera features, and solid performance. For instance, some of the earlier models in the series were among the first to feature a pop-up front-facing camera, allowing for a clean, uninterrupted display experience without any distracting elements. Camera quality has consistently been a defining strength of the Reno series, alongside powerful processors that ensure smooth and responsive performance across daily tasks and creative use.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The OPPO Reno13 Series continues the brand’s strong focus on stylish design and powerful camera capabilities. I had the opportunity to test the OPPO Reno13 5G, and it certainly lives up to the reputation of its lineup.

OPPO Reno13 5G

It’s trying to carve out its own path by offering a promising combination of a premium—albeit familiar—design, AI-powered intelligent cameras, and a sufficiently capable MediaTek processor. But is that enough for the OPPO Reno13 5G to truly stand out in a market overflowing with compelling options? I spent some time with this intriguing device to find out whether the hype is justified—and whether it deserves your hard-earned money.

What’s in the package

The smartphone comes in a silver-and-white box with black accents, which looks quite striking, especially with the silver that catches the light in the sun.

The packaging uses dense cardboard with a completely matte white finish. Raised holographic foil strips create a butterfly-wing effect, while the number “13” is prominently printed on the top cover.

OPPO Reno13 5G

On the bottom of the box, there’s a printed sticker with certification details, company information, IMEI number, and the phone’s technical specifications.

Upon removing the top cover, we find a compartment with some accessories, with the smartphone placed on top, and additional accessories neatly arranged in a plastic tray underneath.

OPPO Reno13 5G

In the box, besides the smartphone, you’ll find a SIM card ejector tool, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, paper instructions, and a warranty card. As you may have noticed, the package doesn’t include a charger that supports the SUPERVOOC 80W fast charging, even though the smartphone is compatible with this standard.

Unfortunately, there’s no protective case included. While not essential, it would have provided extra grip for better protection of the device’s body. That said, the design is so appealing that you might not want to cover it up.

OPPO will likely please its users with a free screen protector already applied to the smartphone, offering some protection against scratches right out of the box.

Premium design

One of the most noticeable aspects of any modern mobile device is its design, and the OPPO Reno13 5G certainly doesn’t disappoint in this regard. In fact, OPPO has always aimed to give its Reno series devices a unique, instantly recognizable style, especially with the use of OPPO Glow coating, which creates pleasant reflections on the body. This gives the smartphones in this series a distinct premium look that is hard to confuse with anything else.

OPPO Reno13 5G

When I first picked up the Reno13 5G, I was pleasantly surprised by how thin and light it is. This is probably the thinnest and lightest smartphone I’ve ever reviewed. Personally, I prefer compact devices, so I instantly liked this one. The flat sides and curved edges give it a look similar to the iPhone, which is more noticeable in person than in photos. Seeing it in person, you’ll likely be just as impressed.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The new OPPO Reno13 5G comes in two fresh color options: Luminous Blue and Plume White. Additionally, the smartphone has a slim profile, measuring just 7.2 mm in thickness and weighing only 181 g. If you prefer smartphones with a flat design, this one is a great choice. It’s also worth noting the rounded corners, which enhance the overall comfort of use.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The OPPO Reno13 5G features a slim, ergonomic profile designed for comfortable handling, even during extended use. The front panel is dominated by a display with narrow bezels, just 1.6 mm thick on all sides, and an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 93.4%.

OPPO Reno13 5G

This results in a pleasing experience when viewing multimedia content, with the display extending nearly from edge to edge.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The front camera is housed in a tiny hole at the center of the upper part of the display.

OPPO Reno13 5G

Additionally, the screen is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 7i. The material choice is well-balanced, combining glass surfaces and high-quality plastic components, ensuring excellent durability and a pleasant feel to the touch.

OPPO Reno13 5G

From the very first moment, I was captivated by the design of the back panel. The first thing that caught my attention was that the entire back panel of the Reno13 5G, including the camera module, is made from a single piece of glass just 1.5 mm thick, giving it a flawless and premium look.

OPPO Reno13 5G

Additionally, the thick glass creates a textured effect, making the camera module nearly flush with the surface. The white Plume textured coating creates beautiful light-reflecting streaks that resemble wings. The finish feels satin-like to the touch. I even thought the entire back surface was covered in satin fabric, as it feels so pleasant to the touch. Words can hardly do it justice.

OPPO Reno13 5G

This is a new visual experience, exclusive to the new OPPO Reno13 series, called the “butterfly shadow effect.” Additionally, the back panel features a matte anti-glare coating that prevents fingerprints, and for some reason, I didn’t want to hide such beauty in a case.

OPPO Reno13 5G

In the upper left corner, there’s a nearly square camera module with a triple-camera setup and an LED flash. The two large camera lenses are arranged vertically: the main camera is at the top, and the ultra-wide camera is at the bottom. However, in my opinion, the design of the camera module feels somewhat outdated.

OPPO Reno13 5G

One of the interesting features, however, is the glowing halo effect around the camera module, achieved through offset printing technologies and a reflective coating, without any LEDs. Nice job, OPPO. They also didn’t forget the OPPO logo at the bottom of the back panel.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The frame is made from a special aerospace-grade aluminum, which protects the phone’s internal components and enhances its durability. According to the developers, this material offers 20% better bending resistance and 36% improved drop resistance.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The design features a heat dissipation system with a frame partition technology. The aluminum frame feels cool to the touch and gives the device a more premium appearance.

This device is one of the few to boast an IP66/IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance certification, making it resistant to dust and capable of withstanding water immersion at depths of up to 2 meters for 30 minutes. Additionally, the new OPPO Reno13 series can endure extreme temperatures up to +55°C and withstand high-pressure water jets at up to 100 bar. I would also highlight the pre-applied screen protector, which contributes to the device’s longevity.

OPPO Reno13 5G

It’s worth noting that the IP69 rating, which ensures resistance to high-pressure water jets and hot water, was previously found only in specialized devices. I conducted a small test by submerging the smartphone in a bathtub and rinsing it under a water stream—nothing happened to the device. I’m confident it will withstand even more extreme tests.

Element layout and ergonomics

As for the sides, the left edge remains empty, with only plastic antenna inserts present.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The main control elements are concentrated on the right side. Here, you’ll find the volume rocker and the power button below it. They are positioned quite comfortably and feature a quality, durable finish.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The bottom of the smartphone houses the dual nanoSIM card slot, a USB Type-C port for charging, the main microphone hole, and the speaker grille.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The top edge features an infrared (IR) port, which is becoming increasingly popular in modern devices. Next to it, you’ll find an additional microphone and speakers to enhance sound quality and recording.

OPPO Reno13 5G

You might think it’s an exaggeration to admire the smartphone’s appearance, but I’ve long believed that a phone should not only perform well but also look good—and the OPPO Reno13 5G meets that criterion. Now that we’ve covered that, let’s move on.

OPPO Reno13 5G

From an ergonomic perspective, the OPPO Reno13 is well-designed: its compact size makes it comfortable to hold, and it sits securely in the hand. The device is easy to control, thanks to its balanced weight distribution.

OPPO Reno13 5G

While the materials used can’t be compared to those found in high-end devices, the smartphone is both attractive and durable. Despite its lightweight and slim design, the device offers impressive sturdiness and is well-prepared for the everyday surprises life may throw at it. The high-quality finish, resistant to fingerprints and smudges, helps maintain the device’s aesthetic appearance over time. Aesthetically, it doesn’t differ much from the PRO version: the latter is slightly larger and features an oval-shaped sensor, whereas the camera on the Reno13 5G is round.

OPPO Reno13 5G display

The OPPO Reno13 5G is equipped with a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, offering a resolution of 1256×2760 pixels and a high pixel density of 460 PPI, ensuring a sharp and detailed image.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The smartphone supports a 120Hz refresh rate, making the screen interaction exceptionally smooth. This is particularly noticeable when scrolling through menus and using compatible apps. If needed, you can switch to a standard refresh rate to extend battery life. The adaptive refresh rate ranges between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz, with the option to set a fixed value in the settings. The interface scrolls smoothly, and the 240Hz touch sampling rate provides an advantage in gaming.

The Reno13 5G display is truly impressive! With a peak brightness of 1200 nits, it remains readable even under direct sunlight. Excellent viewing angles, sharp detail, and vibrant colors make the screen ideal for any use case. Whether you’re watching videos, browsing, or gaming, the display offers an enjoyable and immersive experience.

OPPO Reno13 5G

I emphasize the brightness because it’s important in various scenarios, whether you’re viewing content or simply checking the time on the always-on display. However, a panel with this level of brightness can be somewhat uncomfortable for the eyes under direct sunlight. While the details remain sharp, the colors look natural, and the curved display enhances the overall viewing experience.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The AMOLED panel supports HDR10+ and displays 1.07 billion colors, delivering a realistic and impressive image. The smartphone also supports HD and HDR streaming on services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, ensuring high-quality video playback.

The display is certified by BOE SGS and Seamless Pro’s Eye Protection, which reduces blue light levels. This provides a comfortable viewing experience both in bright conditions and low-light environments, minimizing eye strain.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The end result is impressive, thanks to exceptional color calibration, vibrant tones without distortion, and good viewing angles. In my opinion, OPPO’s new release ranks among the top five smartphones in its price range, especially considering its 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 2160Hz PWM dimming frequency.

The OPPO Reno13 5G comes with all the benefits of ColorOS 15.0, which allows users to adjust color settings, including using the 01 Ultra Vision mechanism to optimize the display.

Unlocking methods

It’s no secret that modern smartphones need to be secure from unauthorized access. The OPPO Reno13 5G offers an excellent in-display fingerprint scanner for this purpose.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The fingerprint scanner is conveniently placed for unlocking with the thumb, and the process takes less than a second. I’ve never encountered any issues, even with slightly wet fingers.

The front camera, located at the top of the display, allows you to use the 2D facial recognition feature for unlocking the device.

OPPO Reno13 5G

Many users might argue that this is not the most secure unlocking method, but it is very convenient and nearly flawless. Personally, I really like it—just look at the screen, and it’s unlocked.

Audio

I avoid using the built-in speakers on smartphones. The sound quality is so far below my minimum standards that in some cases, I prefer to carry a Bluetooth speaker or use headphones. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about an old flagship with a mono system or a modern mid-range device with Dolby Atmos—it’s just not the kind of sound I expect from a smartphone.

But with the OPPO Reno13 5G, it’s a different story. The device features fairly decent stereo speakers. Of course, this doesn’t mean that its sound technology is leaps ahead of the competition, but it does meet my personal minimum standard. The smartphone delivers acceptable bass, which doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the sound stage. You can notice that the mids and highs are well separated, and even when you push the volume slider to the maximum, the Reno13 5G maintains clarity without producing any unpleasant distortion.

The sound quality is quite good for a mid-range smartphone. During phone calls, everything works well too: you’re clearly heard, and your conversation partner doesn’t have trouble catching your words.

OPPO Reno 13 5G hardware

Under the hood of the OPPO Reno13 5G is the octa-core Dimensity 8350 processor, built on a 4nm process. This chip is the result of a collaboration between MediaTek and OPPO. It features eight cores (1×Cortex-A715 at 3.35 GHz, 3×Cortex-A715 at 3.20 GHz, and 4×Cortex-A510 at 2.20 GHz) alongside the Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. Additionally, the device includes 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 3750 MHz and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, allowing for faster app launches, reading speeds, and AI processing tasks. These components play a significant role in the device’s overall performance. To further boost system performance, multitasking, and smoother app transitions, there is also an additional 12 GB of virtual RAM, bringing the total to 24 GB of RAM.

Although the benchmarks do not show particularly high results, the processor’s strength lies in its energy efficiency and its ability to maintain a low temperature, even under resource-intensive tasks. In the battery settings, there is a performance mode available, but enabling it does not lead to significant improvements in benchmark scores. However, for most users, the standard mode will be more than sufficient, as the system’s algorithms adapt to the user’s needs. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the speed of the camera.

The synthetic test results indicate that we’re dealing with a mid-range mobile device. While it shows decent performance, it is still not a flagship device.

Thanks to AI LinkBoost 2.0 technology, the new OPPO Reno13 5G offers better signal strength and more stable connections, even in areas with weak coverage. It uses a 360-degree antenna design for reliable and stable connectivity.

It also features a low-frequency antenna that enhances signal strength in areas with poor coverage, such as underground parking lots or remote outdoor locations. Additionally, the gaming antenna helps prevent signal interference when holding the smartphone sideways, ensuring smooth gaming performance without lag.

OPPO Reno13 5G

Thanks to this versatile communication feature, the Reno13 5G has earned a high-performance network certification from TÜV Rheinland.

For mobile gamers, the smartphone is equipped with AI HyperBoost, which provides adaptive temperature control and frame stabilization during intensive gaming, reducing latency, preventing overheating, and ensuring high frame rates.

The Adaptive Frame Booster smooths out the gaming experience by increasing the frame rate with lower power consumption in games like Mobile Legends, boosting it from 60 to 120 FPS, and in PUBG Mobile up to 90 FPS, while consuming less battery power.

OPPO Reno13 5G

Thanks to these additional gaming enhancements, it has received an S rating in the TÜV SÜD Lag-Free Mobile Gaming test, ensuring a smooth gaming experience. After hours of gaming, the smartphone becomes slightly warm, but it remains well-controlled thanks to the improved vapor cooling system combined with AI-powered adaptive temperature control. This system adjusts cooling and temperature management depending on the game and environmental conditions.

OPPO Reno13 5G

In daily use, the OPPO Reno 13 5G performs very well, without any delays or stuttering even during moderate multitasking. The Mediatek solution is actually well-optimized in terms of efficiency, and while it can’t be compared to the latest chipsets, it is still reliable. The user interface, Color OS 15.0, also plays an important role in this performance.

OPPO Reno13 5G camera

The OPPO Reno13 5G retains the triple-camera system but with several improvements. The main camera now features a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilization, the ultra-wide module is 8MP, and the monochrome sensor replaces the previous 2MP macro lens with the same resolution.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The front camera for selfies has received a significant upgrade: it now features a 50MP lens with 0.8x zoom, making it ideal for group photos.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The camera app interface is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing you to quickly access the necessary functions. At the top of the viewfinder screen, you’ll find buttons for controlling the flash, exposure, Live Photo, Google Lens, and access to the menu. Tapping the menu opens additional features, including options for aspect ratio, timer, HDR, time-lapse shooting, and settings.

The zoom switch offers three levels — 0.6x, 1x, and 2x — with the option to zoom in up to 20x.

The OPPO Reno13 5G also includes exclusive filters borrowed from the OPPO Find X8 series, such as soft portrait lighting (misty, dreamy, luminous) and intelligent scene modes (landscape, silhouette, fireworks). These tools help enhance photo quality across a variety of shooting conditions.

Under daylight conditions, the primary camera captures photos with sharpness, vibrant colors, and good contrast. The ultra-wide camera, while slightly lagging in detail, still delivers good color reproduction and adequate contrast.

In low-light conditions, the camera delivers reasonably good shots with minimal noise, as the image is smoothed out for a better appearance. This is an ideal option for social media posts when you need night-time photos.

The front camera with the upgraded 50-megapixel lens significantly improves selfie quality. It provides a wider field of view, making it perfect for group photos. The shots impress with sharp details, natural skin tones, and brightness, even in challenging lighting conditions. The camera ensures the best selfie quality in well-lit environments, especially outdoors.

One of the key advantages of the OPPO Reno13 5G is its powerful AI camera tools, which help enhance photos and add impressive visual elements during editing. Since most of the features work in the cloud, a stable internet connection is required to use them.

AI Live Photo is a unique feature that not only captures a static image but also records a 1.5-second video clip before and after the photo is taken. This allows for more details to be captured, creating dynamic shots that can be shared on Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms.

AI Clarity Enhancer is a smart algorithm that enhances the sharpness and detail of photos, improving their resolution. It’s the perfect solution for restoring blurry or low-quality images, ensuring the highest-quality result.

AI Eraser 2.0 is one of the most popular camera tools that continues to improve. Now, it’s even more effective at removing unwanted objects or people from photos with just one touch. You can manually select the object using a smart lasso tool, erase it by painting over it, or rely on AI to automatically remove it.

AI Unblur – restores sharpness, colors, and details on blurred photos, improving their overall quality.

AI Reflection Remover – removes glare and light reflections, giving the effect of photos taken without glass or water surfaces.

Soon, with a software update, OPPO will release more useful AI tools:

  • AI Night Portrait – enhances facial clarity and detail in photos, reducing noise in low-light conditions.
  • AI Clear Face – enhances small facial details and textures for the most realistic portraits.
  • AI Best Face – intelligently fixes closed eyes in group photos, ensuring everyone looks their best.

The new AI Studio app allows users to transform selfies or photos of friends into unique AI avatars and artistic images. It offers three engaging modes:

  • AI Portrait – creates stylish and creative profile images.
  • AI Reimage – transforms your photos into various artistic styles.
  • AI Motion – brings static images to life by adding realistic motion.

The OPPO Reno13 5G offers excellent video quality, supporting 4K recording on both the front and rear cameras. The available modes are:

  • 4K 30/60 fps – for smooth video capture.
  • 1080p and 720p – for saving storage without sacrificing quality.

For clear sound recording, the smartphone is equipped with a three-microphone system and an Audio Zoom feature, making it ideal for recording concerts, performances, and vlogs.

With an IP69 rating and solid build quality, the Reno13 5G is capable of underwater photography using its camera app, which includes a dedicated underwater mode. You can capture photos and videos by using the physical volume button as the shutter control. There’s also a one-touch drainage feature that quickly removes water from the device when exiting the underwater mode. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to test this mode, so I can’t comment on the quality of photos taken underwater.

OPPO Reno13 5G battery life

Another pleasant surprise is the battery capacity. Despite the OPPO Reno13 5G being extremely slim, it features a 5600 mAh battery, which lasted 18 hours and 39 minutes in my tests. This exceptional result is likely due to the power-efficient chipset and AMOLED display.

The actual battery life will depend on usage patterns. During a particularly busy day, including attending events, taking photos and videos, and using social media, the phone lasted the entire day before needing a recharge.

Under moderate use, the phone’s battery lasted almost two days during our testing. Even with intensive usage, it provided a full day of performance, including checking and replying to emails, several hours of YouTube video streaming, listening to music on Spotify, active social media use, photo-taking with editing, and extended gaming sessions.

Like other smartphones, the OPPO Reno13 5G features a power-saving mode to extend battery life. Additionally, users can choose from three available battery modes: high-performance, balanced, or super power-saving.

OPPO Reno13 5G

The OPPO Reno13 5G supports 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, allowing for a full charge in under an hour, making it a great choice for users with an active lifestyle. However, my review unit did not come with the original power adapter, so I cannot confirm this specific claim. I used a third-party charger, and a full charge took me 1 hour and 15 minutes, which is still a solid result for a modern smartphone.

Do I recommend buying OPPO Reno13 5G

I spent three weeks with the OPPO Reno13 5G. I was impressed by its sleek, premium design, especially the unique “Butterfly Shadow” on the back panel and its solid build quality. It’s also worth noting the IP69 dust and water resistance, which makes the device not only stylish but also functional for daily use. I’m confident this design will appeal to many. OPPO has created an elegant and impressive smartphone.

The experience is complemented by a high-quality AMOLED display with ultra-thin bezels, allowing for full content consumption despite the device’s compact size. For some reason, this smartphone reminded me more of an iPhone than an Android device, though that’s only in terms of design and comfort during use.

It’s also worth mentioning the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, AI-based improvements, and the generous 24GB of RAM with virtual expansion. Whether used for gaming, content creation, or everyday tasks, the smartphone performs smoothly and without any delays. This is truly impressive. Much of the credit goes to the well-thought-out ColorOS 15.0, built on Android 15.

I also can’t help but praise the photographic capabilities of the OPPO Reno13 5G. Yes, the photos and videos here are of quite high quality. However, it’s important to remember that this is a mid-range smartphone, so it shouldn’t be compared to flagships. Although, sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between flagship devices and mid-range ones. Every year, that boundary becomes less and less distinct.

Are there any downsides to the smartphone? As with any mobile device, it’s possible to find some, depending on individual preferences. Some may not like the MediaTek processor instead of Qualcomm’s. Others might find the abundance of AI algorithms overwhelming, or be disappointed by the lack of a charger in the box. However, the smartphone is undoubtedly worth considering.

The OPPO Reno13 5G truly narrows the gap between mid-range and flagship smartphones, offering reliable everyday performance, a versatile set of AI tools for productivity and photography, and a powerful camera system.

The OPPO Reno13 5G is a solid example of a mid-range smartphone, where the balance between performance, design, and functionality is carefully crafted to meet the needs of modern users.
