It’s no secret that Xiaomi rules the smartphone budget segment. No, they do not set trends. Yes, their own innovations are only “so-so.” It’s the price tag that matters, and the quality is getting better with every year. You can love or hate Xiaomi, but it is pointless to deny the aforementioned points. Today our guest is the cheapest of them all – Redmi 7A.

Our video about Redmi 7A

Appearance, materials, assembly
I’m not sure that the term “design” is applicable in this case. Standard plastic bar with rounded corners and equally rounded edges. But the build quality is great, and with ergonomics everything is in order.
The plastic is solid, matte, which is good – fewer scratches, firmer grip. The bezels around the display … in a smartphone that costs less than $100… shouldn’t matter at all. Nevertheless, they are small in this case, and there is a sense of relevance to the smartphone.
But the miracle did not happen: microUSB is still here, but at least there is a 3.5 jack. There is also splash protection, which was a pleasant surprise for me.
Redmi 7A supports two nanoSIM cards and microSD without any vulgar combo slots.
The only thing that might seem unaesthetic is the back of the phone, riddled with needless text. The modest frontal Redmi logo is not annoying at all.
Screen
The display with an IPS matrix has a diagonal of 5.45″ and a resolution of 1440×720 with a pixel density of 295 dpi and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The color rendition is quite decent, everything is balanced. Brightness is not bad, typical for this type of matrix. Detailing is good. Quite comfortable universal display for everyday use.
Performance
Inside we have Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 with eight cores. Video is handled by Adreno 505. As for the rest – there are variations. There are 3 versions of Redmi 7A – 2\16 GB, 2\32 GB and 3\32 GB.
First things first: let’s test this thing with PUBG. Of course, the settings are minimal, but the smartphone doesn’t fall flat on its face. There is enough performance, everything works smoothly and without lags. No problems with the system as well.
Cameras
In terms of cameras, there are also two versions of the smartphone – for the Indian and Chinese markets. Only the main cameras differ – 12 MP or 13 MP. The aperture remains unchanged – f/2.2. Why the Indian market can’t get that one megapixel is a mystery. Racism, probably.
Nevertheless, the camera copes with its tasks quite adequately – especially if you consider the price tag. Of course, you better snap photos during the day – in the dark, the camera is losing ground. This concerns both photos and video. Autofocus is not the fastest, but it’s not slow either. In general, the main camera is quite good for this price.

The selfie camera is also bearable. 5 MP with f/2.2. The pictures you get are good enough for social media.
Battery
In terms of battery life the phone offers 4000mAh. 2 days, with moderate gaming.
Soft
Smartphone is running Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 interface. The shell is lightweight, unobtrusive – with all the features from Xiaomi. It is comfortable, which is the most important.
Redmi 7A results
Even despite its modest appearance, Redmi 7A is a good smartphone. It is a great choice for those on budget. Whether this is your first smartphone, or this is a smartphone for a child, a senior, or just an undemanding user, it’s more than enough. It is quite enough for all “everyday” tasks, and if you need more, open the wallet wider. See you next time on Root Nation.
