Android Auto message summary feature will use Google Assistant and AI

-

New reports point out that the Android Auto message summary feature is already in its development stage. The interesting thing about this coming feature is that it’ll make use of Google Assistant and AI to summarize user messages. Details on this coming feature were revealed by the folks at 9to5Google after decompiling the Google app on the Play Store.

The decompilation process revealed lines of codes that reveal this feature, proving that it’s in the pipeline. The objective of this coming feature is to simplify notifications for those driving with Android Auto on the infotainment screen. Google will give users the ability to enable or disable this feature directly from their settings page if they wish to.

This action will be accessible from the Notifications option on the Android Auto settings page. From here, users will be able to toggle on or off the “show message summary” option. Each message summary will be done with the help of Google Assistant and AI capabilities.

The summary will give users a run-down of the message they just got and since it’ll use AI there might be some mistakes. Google Assistant will be tasked with the responsibility of reading out the message summary to users. This will help the driver stay focused while driving despite getting a message notification on their device.

This feature may be available for both RCS and regular SMS messages. At this time, this feature only appears as strings of codes in the recent update to Google App via the Play Store. There’s no information on when it’ll become available to the public, but once available, users will get it via an OTA upgrade.
