Apple continues to test generative artificial intelligence, as we expect significant changes in iOS 18. According to the whistleblower yeux1122, Apple’s internal codes indicate that the company is working on a Siri Summarization feature that will show the lines “Please summarize this text” and “Be please answer this question.”
The whistleblower suggests that Siri Summarization will also work with the Messages app for iMessage and SMS texts. Most recently, Google and Samsung announced several AI features for their Pixel 8 and Galaxy 24 phones, including AI-powered summarization of articles, messages, and more.
In addition, it appears that Apple is already testing four AI models in the iOS 17.4 code. Two of them are AjaxGPT, Apple’s large language model, and Google’s ChatGPT and FLAN-T5.
Ultimately, Apple is looking to improve and integrate its LLMs into iOS. According to the whistleblower, Apple is comparing ChatGPT test results with the FLAN-T5 with both on-device and online processing.
Since Apple believes that privacy is a “fundamental human right,” it’s likely that the company wants most AI functions to work locally, which includes reading user messages. In addition, it may threaten the privacy of the user.
Over the past few months, there have been several reports on the Web about Apple’s AI efforts with this Ajax language. Apple was previously thought to focus on B2C applications such as AppleCare chats or internal development tools.
But as its competitors continue to focus on AI, Apple is under pressure to do the same. Fortunately, iOS 18 is already rumoured to be the most significant software update the iPhone has ever received. If this is the case, then we should expect the use of artificial intelligence, but most importantly, it will run on the device.
