After 23 years of serving users, Apple iTunes is now preparing to retire, giving way to newer platforms. During the time of this platform’s existence, its usage has grown, and it has taken different forms to serve the people. But times are changing and Apple is now deciding that it is time to let this platform go while paving the way for new and more refined platforms to serve users.
Originally, this platform launched as a media player on the first iPhone, and then it kept on metamorphosing. From being a media player, iTunes became a platform where users can purchase music, watch music videos, listen to podcasts and so much more. At some point in its life, iTunes became useful to Apple users as a tool to restore their devices.
Now, Apple is replacing most of these services with new platforms that are available to users globally. For music streaming, users can now rely on Apple Music and for film streaming, users can rely on the Apple TV platform. At this point, there is an Apple service that offers at least one or two of what users benefited from iTunes a few years ago.
For device maintenance, Apple now provides a dedicated Windows app that offers all the services iTunes gives users. With all these new and more accessible platforms coming up, the need for Apple iTunes keeps fading into the shadows. Apple now says that it’s time to wave iTunes goodbye and move on to focus on other services that are available to users.
At this point, the usage of iTunes is very bloated and not serving users the way it did a few years ago. Already this platform is not available on recent macOS as the phasing out process has already started. Did you make use of iTunes in the days that it was up, if yes, how did you feel about this news?
