The move for AI adoption around the world is heating up, and the Apple M2 Ultra chips are set to join the race. Yes, you read that right, the M2 Ultra chip hit the launch stage last year and is in use on the Mac Studio as well as the Mac Pro. Apple is making plans to bring this chip to their servers, where they’ll put them to use for the running of complex AI queries.
These servers will work using the M2 Ultra chip for the processing of more complex AI-related functions, which will be uploaded to the cloud. Apple devices around the world with AI capabilities will then be able to access these complex functions from the cloud for implementation. For easier AI queries, these will run locally on Apple devices with AI-capable chips, like the newer iPad Pro model with the M4 chips.
Previous reports on Apple’s moves towards AI advancement claimed that the tech giant was working on custom AI chips. However, it seems like the tech giant will be utilizing the M2 Ultra chips as they seem to be the more available option. Already we know that the M2 Ultra chips are capable in Apple’s arsenal, and now they’ll be put to use for processing AI queries.
Since the end of last, it seems as though Apple had stepped on the gas pedals in its race to roll out AI features. While it is true that they will struggle to catch up with the likes of Google and Microsoft, it’s good to see that they are finally taking a bold step in this direction. Already existing Apple devices like the new iPad Pro will bring a ton of AI features, and so will devices the brand will launch later this year.
