The folks at Carwow are constantly bringing drag races to their YouTube channel, and the most recent entry features the BYD Seal. This vehicle is a Chinese EV, and it has been making waves not only in its home country but also in different regions. From the design to the performance specifications of this vehicle, it stands out as an impressive vehicle.
For the Carwow drag race, Matt Watson ports this impressive Chinese EV against the Tesla Model 3. Unlike the BYD Seal, the Tesla Model 3 is very popular around the world. But similarly to the Chinese EV, the electric mid-size saloon from Tesla also packs a performance punch and just got a design refresh.
In terms of specifications, the BYD Seal packs 530 horsepower and 670nm of torque. The Tesla Model 3 falls back here with 490 horsepower and 490nm of torque. Both vehicles use a dual electric powertrain, which means they have two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear (making them all-wheel-drive vehicles).
Just like with every other drag race, weight is a determining factor and the Tesla Model 3 has the upper hand here. Tesla’s Model 3 vehicle weighs in at 1,840kg, while the BYD Seal weighs in at 2,055kg. However, in the actual race, the more powerful BYD Seal won twice despite the close margin between it and the Tesla Model 3.
Carwow recorded that both cars completed the quarter-mile races in 12.6 seconds. However, for the half-mile race from 30mph, the Tesla outdid its competition. This drag race leads some to wonder whether the BYD Seal is a better purchase than the Tesla Model 3, let’s know your opinion in the comment section below.
