Cyber units of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine successfully carried out a new special operation on the territory of Russia. This time they attacked the tax system of the aggressor state.
During this special operation, military intelligence managed to penetrate one of the well-protected key central servers of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation (FSS of the Russian Federation). After that, cyber units invaded more than 2,300 regional servers of the Federal Security Service throughout Russia, as well as in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
As a result of the cyberattack, all servers were infected with malware. At the same time, the Russian IT company Office.ed-it.ru, which served the Russian Federal Tax Service, was attacked.
As a result of both cyberattacks, the configuration files that ensured the functioning of the extensive tax system of the Russian Federation were destroyed. The entire database and its backups are destroyed.
Communication between the central office in Moscow and 2,300 Russian territorial administrations was paralysed, as well as between the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation and Office.ed-it.ru, which was the tax data centre.
We are talking about the destruction of the infrastructure of one of the main state bodies of terrorist Russia and numerous related tax data over a long period. Internet traffic of tax data on the scale of the whole of Russia ended up in the hands of the military intelligence of Ukraine.
They have been unsuccessfully trying to restore the work of tax Russia for the fourth day in a row. According to experts, the paralysis in the work of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation will last at least a month. At the same time, resuscitation of the tax system of the aggressor state in full is impossible.
The cyberattack of the Cyber units of the GUR of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine was another serious blow to the regime in the Kremlin, which temporarily lost control over taxes and fees.
