An upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series was discovered in the certification database of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In which the model numbers of future Galaxy Watches were indicated, namely: SM-R900, SM-R910 and SM-R920.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is expected to be unveiled in August 2022 at the Unpacked event. The device has already passed a number of certifications, which revealed many interesting details. Thus, it has been confirmed that the watch will have two variants with different diameters: 40 and 44 mm. The first will receive a battery with a capacity of 276 mAh, and the second – with a capacity of 397 mAh.
It is specified that both models will support wireless charging with a capacity of 10 watts. For modern flagship smartphones, this is a very modest figure, but not for a smart watch. In particular, the current generation of Samsung watches supports charging power of only 5 watts. Thus, the new models in this regard will be much better. Given that they sport more capacious batteries, the extra juice from the charger will be much needed.
FCC filling also reveal support for Wi-Fi 2.4 and 5 GHz, Bluetooth, NFC module, many sports features and WearOS as an operating system. According to MySmartPrice, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will feature a titanium case, sapphire protective glass and body temperature sensor. Unfortunately, prices for Galaxy Watch 5 watches have not been leaked yet. And yes, there will be no classic model this year. The company is rumored to replace it with Pro model.
The new models might also get rid of the branded rotating bezel, which was a defining feature of Samsung smartwatches in recent years. But let’s hope that potential buyers will likely trade the rotating bezel for the rumored increased battery capacity.
