In a surprising turn of events, God of War, the highly anticipated series adaptation of PlayStation’s iconic video game franchise for Prime Video, is undergoing a creative overhaul. According to Deadline, showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have exited the project after completing several scripts for the first season.
Yet another Sony adaptation faces problems
Despite the trio’s work receiving praise from both Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, the studios have opted to take the series in a different creative direction. As a result, they plan to hire a new writers’ room to continue developing the show, which remains a high-priority asset for Prime Video.
Judkins, a key figure for Amazon’s streaming platform, remains involved with the network as the showrunner for The Wheel of Time and under an overall deal with Sony Pictures TV, where he is expected to focus on new development.

The God of War series has been in the works since March 2022, when Prime Video first entered negotiations for the adaptation. Co-produced by Sony Pictures TV, Amazon MGM Studios, and PlayStation Productions, the show aims to bring the beloved mythology-themed game to life. While details remain scarce, this restructuring suggests that the project is still moving forward, albeit with a fresh creative vision.
