Earlier this year, Google announced the rebranding of its Bard AI chatbot to Gemini, as well as the launch of a new Android app. However, it was clear from the start that Gemini is not a complete replacement for Google Assistant on Android smartphones, at least not yet. It still lacks some basic features like song identification or playback that Assistant users are used to. However, that could soon change, as insiders are reporting Gemini integration with apps like Spotify.
Google seems to be preparing to introduce a new music-related feature to its chatbot. According to insider AssembleDebug, which he shared with the technical blog PiunikaWeb, Gemini may soon have a Music option that will allow users to “choose their preferred services for playing music.” This became known thanks to the Gemini settings page.
The images show that this feature is the penultimate one on the list. When you click on “Music”, you will be taken to a page where you can “Select a default media provider”. The page is currently empty and doesn’t have any services on it, but this already suggests that soon users will be able to choose their favourite streaming service from a list.
Once the new feature is launched, Gemini is expected to work seamlessly with services such as Spotify, YouTube Music or even Apple Music, allowing music to be played using voice commands. However, there is no information yet on when the team will launch this feature. But when it does, it will surely not only please music lovers but also bring Gemini one step closer to replacing the Assistant.
This isn’t the only useful update that Gemini could be receiving soon, but the second is for the app itself. The developers are reportedly adding a feature to the chatbot mobile app that will allow users to watch the response as it is being generated. Currently, users are waiting for the full response before they can read it, but the new feature will bring the app on par with its web version.
The improvement will be very useful, especially for those who are in a hurry and don’t want to wait a few extra seconds for the chatbot to generate a complete answer and issue a whole paragraph. Therefore, there will be an opportunity to read line by line while artificial intelligence generates your answer. This is generally how most AI chatbots work, so this is a bit of a latecomer for the Gemini Android app, but better late than never.
