After a series of beta tests, the Google Maps 3D buildings are now rolling out to users of Android Auto. This feature started making an appearance early this year, with beta testers as well as a handful of other users getting access to this feature. Google Maps has had this 3D feature for quite a while now on their mobile platform, but not on Android Auto up until now.
With this feature, users can get a realistic 3D representation of buildings in their surroundings. This will give the user a visual representation of their environment to help them navigate to their location. Weeks after this feature became available to a few users, it’s now rolling out to more users to help step up their navigation experience while driving.
For now, some users are experiencing some issues that need fixing in their usage of Google Maps 3D buildings on Android Auto. The major issue that our sources point out is the fact that 3D buildings seem to be inaccessible while using dark mode. However, users who use light mode on the Android Auto system in their vehicle don’t seem to have any issues accessing 3D buildings.
It’s also possible that this issue is region-dependent or only affecting a handful of users on the platform. Google will still need to look into this issue and proffer a fix to it in no time to give users a more seamless experience. Along with this new feature, there are other improvements to the platform.
There are now slight tweaks to the buttons that appear after a driver arrives at their location. The buttons are now bolder and help give the platform a refreshed appearance. In the coming months, other changes might appear on the platform to help step out the overall user experience.
