Google Maps update rolls out, bringing more controls to users

-

If you need more controls while navigating, then the new Google Maps update might just have exactly what you need. Some users of the navigation service from Google have begun to notice some new features on their app after installing the latest update. This new feature lets users control their location data in more ways with just a tap on the blue bot on the map interface.

The blue dot in question points out the user’s current location, and it shows the user where they are on the map using live tracking. Now, users can do more than see their current location on the map with the help of the blue dot. By tapping on this blue dot, users can share their location with others, calibrate their location, and save parking.

Well, these new set of controls accessible by a tap on the blue dot are not all new features with the recent update. Users can now save their location history timeline on their device for easy access at another time. This will help users remember routes they took, or places they visited, thanks to the new Google Maps update.

The location history option can be toggled off or on by users of the Google Maps app. When on, the map syncs with the user’s Google Account and locally stores their location and routes taken. Users can also opt to back up this stored location data to the cloud for easy access on multiple devices.

Since storage of the user’s location data now occurs locally by default and not in the cloud, Google had to shorten the auto-delete timeline. Now, users can have their stored location data deleted from their devices in under three months. But this will be available for some users next year, as the recent update is still rolling out.

Some users are already getting the opportunity to try out this new feature on their devices. Others, however, will need to wait till the update is available for installation on their device. Once available, more features will also become accessible to users for a better navigation experience.
