Google Messages is now the new name of the RCS messaging platform

-

The name, Google Messages, is here to replace the ‘Message by Google’ app name that we are familiar with. This change is part of the tech giant’s efforts to celebrate crossing 1 billion users of their messaging platform. The name change is coming after the platform gets seven new features that all aim to improve the user experience on the platform.

Over the past few years, the RCS messaging platform for Android devices has been known as messages by Google. This name cuts across all Google Services where users can access this app, like the Play Store. But after crossing 1 billion users, Google is now opting for an easier-to-read name, which now reflects on the Google Play Store and other services alike.

Following this name change, the app’s homepage also saw a slight redesign, upgrading its look. Now, at the top left-hand side of the app’s home screen sits the Google ‘G’ logo. Also on the Android app interface, this app retains its name, Messages, regardless of the name change on Play Store and other Google services.

Some users might not notice this change because they are already familiar with calling the app Google Messages. However, over the past few years, the name of the app as seen on the Play Store has been ‘Messages by Google.’ Due to some difficulty in pronouncing this, users got more familiar with referring to the app as ‘Google Messages.’

The simplification of the app’s name is a move that many users will come to appreciate. To get the new Google Message app name on your app, head over to the Play Store and install the update. Similar changes might also come to the Phone by Google app simplifying it to Google Phone just like with the messaging app.
