Foldable phones in the form factor of a book promise to give you an internal screen almost the size of a tablet that can be folded into a regular smartphone. Well, with its Pixel Fold 2, Google may come closer to delivering on that promise than most foldable smartphone makers on the market.
According to a rather respectable insider Ross Yang on his Twitter page, the Google Pixel Fold 2 may get an 8.02-inch folding screen and a 6.29-inch external screen!
The leaks on the Pixel Fold 2 don't have the display sizes right. 8.02" for the foldable display and 6.29" for the cover display. Panel production starts in April! It is coming.

For comparison, the first-generation Google Pixel Fold has a 7.6-inch internal screen and a 5.8-inch external display. So if the insider’s sources are correct, both screens on the Pixel Fold 2 will be significantly larger. It will also make the foldable screen look more like a tablet. For example, the Apple iPad mini (2021) is only slightly larger with its 8.3″ diagonal.
Similarly, the 6.29-inch external screen also means a larger folded size and a greater resemblance to typical smartphones – for example, it will be larger than the 6.17-inch Google Pixel 8.
Those screen sizes would also be larger than many other foldable smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold5, which has a 7.6-inch foldable screen and a 6.2-inch external display (here’s a review of it). Ross Young also claims that the Pixel Fold 2 will have a fairly wide external screen, just like the current model, and that panel production for the new device will begin in April. Hopefully, this could mean we won’t have to wait too long for the phone to launch.
This is all good news, but as always, there is a caveat – the concern is that the original Pixel Fold has quite large bezels, so unless Google reduces them in the next generation of devices, the larger screen size could make the phone a bit bulky. However, if the screens get bigger, it could also be a sign that the bezels will get smaller. This was already hinted at by the leaked renders of the Pixel Fold 2.
It’s still unclear when we’ll know for sure, as while the original Pixel Fold was officially unveiled last May, one rumour points to the launch of the Pixel Fold 2 in October, alongside Google’s new Pixel 9 series. In addition to larger screens, other insiders mentioned the possibility of installing a more powerful chipset and an additional camera and also talked about a new design. Such updates could well make it one of the best foldable smartphones on the market.
