In Japan, the Google Pixel market share has seen a 527% YoY growth over the last two years. In the year 2022, Google’s smartphone brand was an underdog in the Japanese market. However, in 2023, Google’s smartphone brand grew to become the third-largest smartphone brand in the region.
According to a recent analysis of the market, in 2022 Google accounted for 1.5% of the Japanese smartphone market. The same report institution responsible for the 2022 record points out that in 2023 Google accounted for 10.7% of smartphones in Japan. Now this growth occurred in just two years, moving from 1.5% to 10.7% this is very impressive.
At this point, there is only a 0.2% gap between Google (in third place) and Sharp (in second place) in the Japanese smartphone market. Between 2022 and 2023 the Google Pixel market share in Japan saw a 527% growth. This is more than the growth that all of their top competitors saw within the same period.
At this level of growth and with the gap between it and Sharp, Google might just cling to the second spot this year. Already the brand has launched the Pixel 8 series and is awaiting the entry of the more affordable Pixel 8a. Within the year we also expect to see the launch of the Pixel Fold as well as the devices in the Pixel 9 series.
The arrival of all these devices might fuel the growth of Google’s smartphone market share in the Japanese region. In America, Google is also seeing impressive growth, although not as jaw-dropping as it’s currently seeing in Japan. We’ll ensure to keep an eye out for the market performance of Google Pixel in Japan to see whether it can rival Apple for the top place.
