Grand Theft Auto VI could be the biggest release of all time, especially considering the incredibly high expectations caused by its official announcement. Rockstar Games recently announced that the game is in development and showed its announcement trailer, after which numerous speculations appeared on the Internet. From an in-depth analysis of each image to a replay of all GTA V footage, one video has become the source of a ridiculous amount of content, but that’s just the beginning. The community is eager to know more about GTA VI and every tiny bit of information is checked with great interest. Of course, the most sought-after information is the game’s release date, which the developers have yet to officially confirm, even though the game will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox at launch.
The consensus on GTA VI is that it will be released next year. However, recent information indicates a possible delay. According to Kotaku, some people working at Rockstar Games said that they plan to release the game “in early 2025”. However, the current state of the development process is not on schedule, and GTA VI could be ready for release in late 2025 or even some time in 2026. Of course, there is no official confirmation on this matter, and, understandably, this news will be very disappointing for Grand Theft Auto fans if it turns out to be true.
However, Rockstar Games can’t afford to release a game that doesn’t live up to the expectations of its fans at the risk of losing the prestige it’s built up over the years with GTA V. So rushing development can only lead to a potentially disastrous situation. We’ve already seen this happen with Cyberpunk 2077, with a botched release that forced CD Projekt Red to delay post-launch content to patch up the game in a process that wasn’t completed until Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which came out three years later.
Rockstar recently sent out notices to most employees to return to work in the office five days a week, a decision that has been criticized by employees, although it is understood that the developer is forcing them to do so due to productivity and security concerns. If development is behind schedule, it might help to understand why Rockstar is doing it this way.
