Volunteer and public figure Serhiy Sternenko posted a video on his Twitter page showing a Russian Mi-28 helicopter being struck by an FPV drone. This is the first visually confirmed case in history.
“Yesterday, warriors of the M2 unit of the SBU Special Operations Center managed to strike a Russian Mi-28 helicopter over the Kursk region with a long-range FPV drone that you previously donated for. Unfortunately, there is no information about the subsequent fate of the helicopter,” reads Serhiy Sternenko’s post.

According to him, the video also captured two more attempts by the Russians to hover over their territory. “This result is the painstaking work of engineers, operators, and your donations. Not only reconnaissance wings will be shot down, but also helicopters,” he added in the post.
He also reminded his followers about his drone fundraising campaign and noted that there are already many videos showing the downing of Orlans, Zala, and other reconnaissance drones. However, there is currently a complete ban by the higher command on such publications, so sharing them will only be possible once the ban is lifted.
Recently, drones have started to demonstrate their capabilities in striking helicopters. It was reported that on July 31, a Ukrainian FPV drone weighing about 1 kg managed to down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in the Donetsk region. This might have been the first instance in the world where an expensive helicopter was shot down by a small, inexpensive (especially relative to the helicopter’s cost) drone. A photo appeared on social media showing a Mi-8 transport helicopter burning on the ground, but no video of the attack was available.
