A few months ago, we learnt that HMD Global was working on new devices that’ll be clear of the Nokia branding. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been seeing leaks and reveals concerning this coming device from HMD Global, but now the company’s branding is going official. At this moment, all Nokia social media pages and official websites are now adopting the HMD logo and branding.
The smartphone manufacturing company also took to its YouTube page to share a video of this transition. In the video, they pointed out the full meaning of the acronym HMD, which stands for Human Mobile Devices. They also gave us a brief rundown of their plans or objectives as a smartphone manufacturing company, which revolves around sustainability.
As this transition takes place, the official Nokia Mobile website also sees a major redesign. The website is now known as HMD, and it comes with a few design adjustments but still retails some Nokia devices. This new-ish website will be the home for the coming HMD smartphones that are preparing to hit the launch stage in the coming weeks.
As you scroll around the redesigned website, you’ll find some design cues that might point to the coming device. These design cues are in the shape of a rectangular device with side curves that slip into the rear panel (back of the device) and the screen (front of the device). Also, you can see the rear camera cutout that’ll house two cameras and a flash.
From these cues, we see that the coming HMD devices will shift away from the Nokia design language that we see today. Gradually we might see the Nokia branding exit the smartphone business as they give way to HMD Global while focusing on network equipment. In the coming weeks, we’ll get to see the first HMD smartphone as it steps into the budget smartphone market.
