HMD TomCat might be the brand’s ticket into the midrange smartphone market

-

The Android smartphone market is very competitive and the HMD TomCat is preparing to go head-first against the competition. This coming device from HMD goes by the codename “TomCat” and it has been spotted on Geekbench ahead of its official launch. Thanks to its GeekBench listing, we’re able to learn a thing or two about this coming device.

Already we have got an official look at the HMD Pulse series, and these are budget devices. They don’t fit into the midrange Android market, which is the first choice for some buyers to find themselves. However, the coming HMD TomCat device will fit perfectly into the competitive midrange Android market thanks to its specifications.

Unlike the HMD Pulse series, this coming TomCat device might launch with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. The Snapdragon 7 series is the chipmaker’s option for midrange devices, and it is currently in its third generation (Gen 3). As you might already know, the 7s is the beefier entry into the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series.

Although the Geekbench listing for this coming HMD TomCat device doesn’t clearly state that it’ll feature this processor, we see hints that this is the processor in use on this device. The listing points out that this device will use an octa-core, 4+4 cluster processor with a Geekbench score of 965 single-core and 2625 multicore. For the first core, we see a base frequency of 1.96GHz and the second core gives a base frequency of 2.4GHz.

These details match the specifications and Geekbench score of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. For this reason, we expect this device to launch with this processor, hence stepping into the midrange Android market where this processor is common. More details on this coming HMD device will hit the internet in the coming weeks, throwing more light on what we can expect.
