Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro augmented, and virtual reality headset will support several dedicated Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Loop, when it launches on February 2. Apple has long described the Vision Pro as a productivity device, so it’s expected that the addition of Microsoft 365 products should make users more productive.
These aren’t the usual remakes of the corresponding iPad apps – many have built-in tools that take advantage of the headset. For example, PowerPoint has a special environment with an immersive effect that allows users to practice giving presentations in front of a real audience. Excel allows users to quickly move documents to other applications thanks to the drag-and-drop functionality in the headset.
Microsoft Word will have a focus mode that blocks out distractions so you can finish an urgent document. Teams support headset personalization so that a digital avatar can attend work meetings and impress colleagues present. The Zoom app, by the way, will also support this feature.
Owners of the headset will also be able to access the Microsoft Copilot service. In other words, it will be possible to use ordinary conversation to instruct the digital assistant to create drafts, summarize documents and even create PowerPoint presentations.
Each of these apps will be available in the official App Store as soon as you unbox your new expensive gadget. There’s been a lot of talk about what software won’t be available at launch, like Netflix and YouTube. Therefore, it is nice to see that the first users will not be forced to use only branded Apple applications.
