Chinese automobile manufacturers Nio and Geely are now in an EV battery-swapping partnership. This will bring the two automobile companies together as they adopt a “co-investment, co-construction, shared, co-operative” partnership model. The major benefactors of this new partnership will be Nio and Geely end users.
Already Nio is on top of things regarding EV battery swapping as they were one of the first EV manufacturers to bring the technology to end users. At the moment, Nio has thousands of battery-swapping sites in Asia and Europe, with plans to expand to other areas. In comparison with charging up an EV, battery swapping is a faster way to get going, especially for commuters.
This new partnership will bring Nio’s battery-swapping technology to Geely automobile brands. If you aren’t an automobile nerd, you might not know about Geely, but you will know about Volvo and its safety-centric vehicles. Well, Volvo, Polestar, Geely Auto, Lotus, Smart, Lynk&Co, and Zeekr are just some car brands under Geely ownership.
Some of the brands above are completely owned by Geely, while others are partly owned by the automobile company. The new Nio and Geely partnership will bring battery-swapping technology to all of these brands. Both companies will work together to improve upon the already existing battery-swapping technology from Nio.
So instead of waiting for over 15 minutes to charge up your EV (if you use a brand owned by Geely) you can just swap the low battery for a fully charged one. This swapping will take place in a Nio and Geely swapping station that is close to the user. This partnership’s faster and more economical way to get going in your EV might be making its way to regions like Asia and Europe in the coming months.
