The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has revealed the new Nio ET5 battery option. Originally, this electric vehicle launched with two battery options for those looking to get it at their local dealerships. The first battery option on this electric vehicle is the 70kWh battery and the second choice is the 100kWh battery which is a bit more expensive and gives more driving range.
Now the vehicle is getting a much larger 150kWh battery pack, which brings even more driving range than the already available 100kWh option. This new battery is a semi-solid state battery and is manufactured by WeLion due to its larger size, it’s heavier than the existing options for this vehicle. Our sources point out that the new 150kWh battery pack for the Nio ET5 is only 20kg heavier than the 100kWh option.
Well, most people won’t consider getting this vehicle with a new battery pack because of its weight but its range. At 150kWh, this new battery assures users of a driving range of up to 1,055km (650 miles) on a single charge. The CEO of Nio tested an ET5 fitted with this new battery capacity sometime last year and was able to get a drive of 1,044km (650 miles) on a single charge.
This is much more than the 500km driving range that the Nio ET5 currently offers with the 70kWh battery pack. So some users might want to get a new ET5 that comes fitted with this new battery pack. Well, our sources point out that this new 150kWh battery from WeLion is quite expensive.
But because Nio vehicles can swap batteries, users can rent the large 150kWh battery for longer trips. Instead of getting a measly 500km driving range on a single charge, they can swap to the larger option and get a whopping 1,055km on a single charge. Both the Nio ET5 saloon and wagon will be able to swap to this larger battery pack for daily usage once available.
