Qualcomm, together with its mobile device partners, may try to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagship processor earlier than usual this year. The current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip was announced last October. The next announcement may take place in September.
At the same time, the first smartphone with this chip may appear. It will be a flagship model with curved screens on both sides, says a Digital Chat Station insider. The performance of Oryon computing cores will increase significantly. Test results have already appeared, according to which in Geekbench 6 the future chip is on par with the Apple M3 processor and is 46% better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in multi-core tests.
Previously, there was information about the new processor reaching a clock frequency of 4 GHz. It is not reported what the energy consumption will be. Since the new chip does not rely on ARM development, device makers have the opportunity to work with Qualcomm to find a balance between power consumption and speed for specific devices.
A Qualcomm representative previously said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will increase in price compared to the current generation chip. This may force some manufacturers to switch to MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processors.
Laptop manufacturers can start using the Snapdragon X Elite processor, which also promises a noticeable increase in performance.
