The Rheinmetall Group will establish a total of four weapons manufacturing plants in Ukraine, with one already operational.
“We have many good plans. The first plant is already operational. The Ukrainian defense industry is our partner. Right now, we have a production facility and a maintenance facility. By the end of the year, we will have the first state-of-the-art Lynx infantry fighting vehicle produced in Ukraine. Currently, we are servicing infantry fighting vehicles as well as main battle tanks. So, this is a very productive joint venture,” he stated.
According to the company’s representative, Rheinmetall is also advancing in building a plant for the production of gunpowder and ammunition in Ukraine.
“The third point is that we aim to establish the production of air defense systems so that you can protect yourselves,” added Papperger.
The company’s director also shared details regarding the readiness of these four plants.
“Things are progressing. The first plant is already ready. The second one is on the way. And I now insist on speeding this up because we don’t have time; we cannot afford to lose any,” he emphasized.
In March 2024, it was reported that the German defense concern Rheinmetall plans to build at least four plants in Ukraine for the production of weapons.
In particular, Rheinmetall has received an order to build a shell production plant and, in collaboration with Ukroboronprom, has opened the first workshop for the repair and production of armored vehicles in Ukraine.
In May, information emerged that Rheinmetall would launch joint production of air defense systems in Ukraine.
