The AR glass industry is booming and the new Samsung Glasses trademark shows the company’s plans of buying into the industry. This trademark is filled by the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office and clearly shows that Samsung aims to develop AR products. Part of the list of goods that this trademark covers are VR headsets, AR headsets, headphones, smartphones, and smart glasses.
There’s not much information on what is coming with this new trademark that Samsung now has. However, it gives the date of submission of the application for this trademark to the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office. Samsung made the application back in August 2023 and the office granted the trademark in November 2023.
The tech giant will hold this trademark for 10 years before the Intellectual Property Office will require a renewal. Before the submission of this application, there had been rumours of Samsung’s plans to step into the AR industry. Already Samsung’s top competitor, Apple, is preparing to launch their Vision headsets which will go up against the Meta Quest Pro.
The new Samsung Glasses trademark shows that the tech giant is not only aiming to compete with Apple’s Vision headset. Samsung’s plan is not only to launch a VR headset like Apple is planning to, the company is planning to launch AR headsets, smart glasses and so on. Already there are rumours that Samsung is working on its XR headset that’ll launch sometime next year.
Some argue that this launch might be as early as January when the Galaxy S24 series will launch. If this is true, then it seems like Samsung might get a first taste of the XR industry before Apple. However, there is also a possibility that Samsung might be working to perfect its AR product to get an edge over the competition.
