In the EU, the Spotify iPhone app is not able to get an app update, as it seems that Apple is blocking this. This claim was made by Spotify, as it points out that the tech giant is ignoring the streaming service’s submission regarding their new pricing. With this submission still pending, the streaming service provider is not able to update its app for users in the region.
The updates fix some bugs that are present in the current version of the app that is accessible to the EU and its member states. There are also some new features that the update Apple seems to be blocking brings for an overall better user experience. Possibly, Apple is not following the EU’s ruling to allow Spotify to accept subscription payments from their website and not the App Store.
Early this month, Spotify submitted this new pricing update for the iPhone app to Apple, a few days after the EU’s ruling. In response to this ruling, Apple promised to appeal the case between itself and Spotify, claiming that it offers a good amount of value to Spotify’s business. After sharing the new payment update with Apple, Spotify says that it waited for a response from the tech giant only to get none.
The streaming service provider also went on to reach out to Apple on this matter, with no response from them. At this moment there’s still no update on this case as it seems like Apple is yet to respond to Spotify’s submission. Possibly in the coming days, there will be more information on this case and maybe EU Spotify iPhone app users might get the pending updates.
