As we approach the official launch of the coming Samsung foldable devices, we get more information on them. These devices are the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and in a few months, they’ll succeed the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Now, we know the processor that will power these coming foldable devices, helping them stay on par with the competition.
Following the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, these foldable devices will launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Unlike with other Galaxy devices, these coming entries will make the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor available across all markets. We can now confirm this exclusivity, despite previous reports about the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 bringing Exynos processors.
Another notable fact about the processors on these coming foldable devices is that they’ll not be like other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered devices. Yes, the reports on these coming foldable devices point out that they will make use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy processor. This processor will come with some tweaks and adjustments, bumping up the performance on Galaxy devices.
But why is Samsung shying away from using the Exynos processors on their foldable devices, despite using them on the flagship entries? It all has to do with production cost, as usage of the Exynos chips on the Samsung foldable devices will increase production costs. This will in turn increase the purchasing cost of these foldable devices when they eventually launch.
So by avoiding the use of Exynos processors on their foldable devices, Samsung is keeping these devices within a reasonable price range. However, this might change next year, as there are still rumours that the foldable devices for 2025 might launch with Exynos processors. At this point, we can only wait to see all that the coming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 have in store.
