The iPhone 16 series is still a long way off, but a new article from MacRumors has some key details about the design of the base iPhone 16 prototypes. Apple is said to be experimenting with the back panel design and button placement on the upcoming base iPhone, known internally as the “DeLorean,” and now we have a trio of pre-production design renders highlighting possible new changes. The first shows an iPhone X-inspired camera with two lenses in a vertical body.
The yellow iPhone 16 prototype also has a single volume rocker instead of the separate volume up and down buttons used on all iPhones since 2010. All three devices also have capacitive action buttons above the volume rocker, with the button visually larger on the black model. In the other two renders, shown in pink and black, the camera design has taken on a more familiar look, with each lens housed inside a metal ring.
The black model also has a capacitive shutter button located below the power button. According to previous rumours, the new button is known at Apple headquarters as “Project Nova” and will provide feedback on strong touch while also acting as a camera shutter button. The Action Button is expected to appear throughout the iPhone 16 series.
