The US House of Representatives is now making moves to ban TikTok in their region. However, a new bill that they are massively in favour of might save TikTok from facing a ban in the country if ByteDance sells. This bill in question got a massive 352 votes in favour of it with 65 votes against the motion, showing a sense of unison on this motion.
If this bill goes into law, ByteDance will have to sell TikTok to a US company or face a ban. The current president of the US is in favour of this bill and promises to sign it into law if it passes the Senate. Yes, after successfully passing the House of Representatives, this bill is now moving over to the Senate for evaluation and votes for or against the motion.
While 352 members of the House of Representatives are in favour of this motion, the choice of the Senate is still unknown. The Senate might vote in favour of TikTok, hence leaving it under ByteDance ownership without the risks or a ban. However, there’s also a possibility that the Senate might vote in favour of the bill, hence forcing TikTok out of the country or out of possession of ByteDance, its parent company.
Over the years, TikTok has been facing serious allegations from various US offices, hence leading to bans in certain states. These bans have all been overruled, but the video-sharing platform is not yet free from any pressures. The major fear of these US offices is the stealing of user data, an action they accuse ByteDance, a Chinese company, of taking part in.
Well, not all US offices are in favour of banning TikTok on the grounds of these allegations. Some are pushing for measures to prevent the stealing of user data by any online service provider within or outside the region. Well, at the moment, TikTok’s fate hangs in the balance as the performance of this bill in the Senate will shape its future in the US.
