Sometime last year, the WhatsApp chat filter feature made an appearance and caught the eyes of most users. This feature helps users get their chats organized into various categories for easy access. Despite arriving on users’ devices last year, this feature later became unavailable for all, but it seems like it’s preparing to resurface.
The folks at WABetaInfo have spotted this feature on the new WhatsApp for Android beta version. At this moment, only a handful of beta testers have access to this feature via this new beta update. From the details of this feature, beta testers can filter the chats into three basic groups for easy access to what they need.
Android beta testers have access to three filters, the first which displays all the available chats on their device. This filter is known as “All” and is what all WhatsApp users currently have access to. Following this filter is the one for unread chats known as “Unread” for easy access to those chats that haven’t been opened.
The last filter that beta testers are getting to try out is the “Groups” filter. This one provides users with all the group chats that they are members of for easy access. Accessing each of these filters is very easy, as launching the app provides the “All” filter by default.
Buttons to switch to the other two filters are available just below the WhatsApp logo or title bar of the app. However, our sources note that the contact filter is not available with the release of this beta testing version. Once available for stable updates, this feature will be available to more people via an update on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
