The folks at WABetaInfo have uncovered a new WhatsApp Bluetooth-sharing feature that’ll soon be available for usage. This new feature that’s currently under testing will let users send files to other users who are near them. WhatsApp is making this feature available for testing on Android devices, which is a bit confusing.
Already, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to share 2GB files to others via the app. This is a remarkable improvement because, before this feature’s release, users had to limit the size of files they could send to other users. Now, Android users will soon be able to share files with others who are near them via Bluetooth OTA transfer.
Android devices already have sharing options such as Nearby Share, which is a fast and reliable way to share files with other Android devices. Well, their counterparts on iOS devices rely on Airdrop for file sharing with each other. WhatsApp might now be working to bring an easy way for Android and iOS devices to share files from an app that they regularly use.
This move will not only make WhatsApp more reliable, but it’ll also make sharing between devices (Android and iOS) easy. But for now, this feature is only available to beta testers of WhatsApp for Android thanks to the recent upgrade. For this WhatsApp Bluetooth sharing feature to work, both users will need to have it open on their devices.
One party will be sending, and the other will be receiving, the sending party will be able to see the receivers from the ‘visibility’ section of the sharing interface. From here they’ll be able to select who they wish to share with and then complete the sharing process. More details on this new beta testing feature will become available to WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
