Over the years, the WhatsApp three-dot menu has been plain, simple, and without any icons. But now WhatsApp seems to be working to spice things up a bit by adding some icons to the menu dropdown. WABetaInfo has spotted some design changes to the three-dot icon drop on a new update to WhatsApp for Android beta testers.
In this beta testing version, we can see that WhatsApp is adding icons to the various settings options. These options are accessed by tapping on the three-dot menu button on the top right-hand side of the screen. This option menu is from within a chat and is different from the option that users access from the homepage.
From the image above, we can see that the new icons are displayed before the option they are for. For instance, the ‘Report’ option has a thumbs-down icon just in front of it, the same with the ‘Search’ option with the magnifying glass icon. Other options have icons that sit ahead of the write-up for easy identification and access.
This is a great addition to the WhatsApp three-dot menu within chats, as users will find it very useful. Aside from improving the looks of the three-dot menu dropdown, these new icons will help users easily identify the setting options they are looking for. If a user is looking for the ‘Disappearing Messages’ option, they just need to find the timer icon.
These small changes are always impressive and interesting to see roll out to users globally. At this moment, we can’t tell when this new feature or design change will be rolling out to users. But once it’s available, it’ll hit the user’s devices via an app update on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
