Over the past year, users of the WhatsApp Web client have been unable to share or post status updates (but can view status updates). Now that is coming to an end as users of the web platform are getting the ability to share status updates. News on this feature rolling out was made public by the folks at WABetaInfo via one of their recent updates.
At the moment, some WhatsApp Web beta testers have access to this feature and are already putting it to use. Others might need to wait while the update rolls out gradually to them over the coming months. This feature is coming following WhatsApp, giving users the ability to share status updates from their companion or secondary device instead of their main device.
According to WABetaInfo, the ability to share status on the web client is possible thanks to the companion device status sharing update. WhatsApp Web has always served users as a companion device, as users will need their main device to sign in to the web platform for usage. So, with companion devices getting the ability to share or post status updates, it’s only normal that WhatsApp Web also gets access to this feature.
From the image that WABetaInfo shared, it’s clear that some beta users of the web platform can now share or post status updates. These updates include photos, videos, and text just like they can on their main device. Once they share or post these updates, other users on either the mobile or web platform will be able to view these updates.
At this moment, only a handful of WhatsApp Web users have access to this feature. With time, more users will be able to access this feature from their desktop browser once they sign in. This will give users more control while they access their WhatsApp account from the web client.
